Hey Maria Barnes — I haven't actually gotten any answers yet—mostly because I didn't even get a chance to ask my questions.
I opened this thread because I was waiting on you—honestly, I didn't even want to bother debating this with those other folks since they couldn't give me a straight answer when I asked them over on the Diaspora boards.
If Steven Ruiz banned you, I’m betting there was a legitimate reason behind it—but hey, if you truly feel like it was uncalled for, feel free to speak up. I noticed you’ve actually started two separate threads on this exact same topic, and even after nine posts in this one, you still haven't really made a point.
Yeah, you caught me—I did leave nine posts behind—but did you notice that the whole thread was actually aimed at you? It’s funny how people start chiming in even when I didn't reach out to them specifically... and those nine posts weren't just me having a one-sided conversation with myself. 😉
Look, I honestly don't see a single valid reason for my temporary ban—seriously. Every time Steven Ruiz hands me one, it’s just because we don't see eye to eye... and if disagreeing is enough to get tossed out, then you guys are a long way from being a true democracy.
Two people have already been banned here—how is it even possible to get kicked off the Diaspora forums like that? And why aren't you asking questions or actually looking into why—instead of just indirectly attacking me and assuming I must have deserved my ban without checking the facts first?
I’ll try to give you an answer without knowing the specific issue—but look, even the most charismatic, model users can get banned if they cross the line of what's acceptable here. Your past track record doesn't really matter in those cases—which, I'm guessing, is exactly what happened to you.
I appreciate the effort—but I feel like I’m being targeted by your forum rules here... and as far as I can tell (please correct me if I'm wrong on this one)—moderators are supposed to maintain order—which means setting the standard for how people should act, right? If a moderator is out there insulting and belittling guests just because they disagree on an opinion—is that really what you consider good moderation?
I can't speak for the rest of the moderation team—I'm just talking about Steven Ruiz.
Look, you have to understand—I haven't exactly been an active presence on these forums since yesterday. And honestly? Getting banned just for having a different opinion... that’s only happened to me on two sites so far. One was a hyper-nationalist board, and the other was likely one you're familiar with—the American-Americans site.
I think I've made my point clear enough—pretty much covered everything there is to say.
Look, I don't have anything against you guys running things this way—if that's how you choose to moderate your own space, I'll respect the rules since I'm a guest here. But—and this is just a suggestion—you might want to update those terms and conditions I clicked "agree" on during sign-up. They seem a bit incomplete. You should probably add a clause stating that moderators have the authority to issue bans, insult or belittle anyone with a different opinion, and lock threads just to prove who's really in charge.
I’d honestly suggest getting rid of this complaints subforum—it’s kind of pointless when there isn't even anyone here to actually listen to them, right?
A ban doesn't have to be forever—we’re pretty big-hearted people here, and we truly believe everyone deserves a second chance. Right now, though, you're just digging your own hole—one of your threads is nothing but rhetorical questions, and the other is aimed directly at the PM.
👋
I feel like I’ve been working against my own interests ever since I joined this forum. I started a thread over in the diaspora section about traditional customs—just some heritage stuff—and then I saw how your moderator handles things.
Look, what I’m suggesting is that you take a look at the situation, and I’ll help you out—but only if you actually intend to be fair with your rulings.
If you're willing to do that—then I'll send over the links showing exactly where the moderator is breaking the rules, and then I'll be the one asking for her to get a week-long "cool down" period. Because at the end of the day, fair is fair...
But if you aren't interested in that—then I don't want to waste my time, or yours either...
In that case, just lock this topic and we can move on like we usually do.
