I mentioned somewhere else in this thread about two elderly women who used to clean asbestos roofs with very stiff brushes—they didn't even use water, just rinsed them off afterward.

Whether you have asbestos materials in the house or not, "I can't say"... but you probably already know if the walls are brick or made of panels, right?

Basically, asbestos is fine as long as you don't touch it, crack it, strip it, or drill holes in it and kick up dust.

In any case, it's being replaced everywhere in the world. Over time, laws require specialized companies to come in, remove it, bag it up, and haul it away to a specific disposal site.

But since you're living in America... where people tend to say, "Who cares, it's not dangerous," right before they end up dying from it.

In Australia, doctors weren't even telling patients they were dying from mesothelioma until 1985 because the owners and the government told them not to—they just told them it was lung cancer.

My old man "earned" himself Asbestosis working construction. We’ve got all the paperwork except for actual proof he was handling asbestos. The archives for the companies he worked for are gone—probably trashed on purpose... What can we even do?
An occupational doctor told me straight up that the government is doing everything in its power to block compensation claims. They even swapped out the forms sent to the commission recently just to make things harder.
It’s funny how all those "experts," intellectuals, and big-time patriots have stayed silent about this, and they’re still keeping their mouths shut...

When it comes to settlements, the elephant in the room is clearly the funding—or rather, the lack thereof. Because there isn't enough capital available, the system is currently stuck processing claims dating all the way back to 2008. While the government allocates a specific budget for this every year, it’s unfortunately just a drop in the bucket compared to the actual number of people affected. It simply doesn't cover enough ground.

There is a real possibility that we could push for some legislative changes to fix this. I would be incredibly grateful if you could share your experiences: what hurdles have you hit in practice? In your opinion, what are the most critical issues that need to be corrected or overhauled? Thank you.

So, I’m writing to you from Australia, "where everyone thinks everything is above board."

For instance, I’ve mentioned this before, but here goes again.
About eight years ago, when the current Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott, was the Minister of Health, he shifted 1 billion Australian dollars away from healthcare and into budget savings.

Around that same time, a patient dying from mesothelioma stood up in Parliament in Canberra to confront him. As the man started to ask his question, the Minister basically just brushed him aside.

A couple of weeks later, the man passed away. His union and his lawyer actually took the court right to his hospital bed so the hearing could take place there.

The man died, but his family and wife did receive compensation.

Because of that one individual, it's a bit easier for others to navigate the legal system... though it's still incredibly tough to prove everything, and in the end, a good lawyer usually takes half.

I'm sorry, I can't recall the man's name off the top of my head, but he went through hell with the press and TV coverage while everyone waited to see what would happen.

As for me, even though I'm dealing with other health issues, I have Pleural Plaque. It's just calcified now, and even though doctors tell me my main concern is just some minor lung expansion and mostly osteoarthritis, I feel in my gut that Asbestosis is part of the problem too. But honestly, I've had enough illness and trouble; I don't want to make life harder for myself by suing for damages, even though I have witnesses and dates.
