My grandmother used to tell me this story about a little girl she knew back in the day who accidentally fell into quicklime. Apparently, the local folks treated her by rubbing her down with essential oils and wrapping her in linen bandages. She swore up and down that the kid didn't end up with a single burn scar. 🤷It’s a hard pill to swallow, honestly, but she was absolutely certain that’s how they handled it.

St. John's Wort oil is honestly a total game-changer for your skin, though you really ought to be careful about stepping out into the sunlight right after applying it.

Since I’m getting absolutely zero replies on the other thread...

How effective is the St. John's Wort oil you pick up at a local CVS or Walgreens? I can't exactly go out and forage for my own right now.

I'm asking because I'm dealing with some persistent vaginal issues—constant yeast infections, Ureaplasma that keeps coming back no matter how many rounds of antibiotics I finish, plus HPV, dryness, and swelling.

Thanks.

You actually mentioned something about this here:

or you could check out the full discussion over at

Personally, I use store-bought St. John's Wort oil for minor scrapes or after facial cleansing, and it works wonders for me..

Old thread, I know, but whatever. I'll give it a shot.
Does anyone actually find that tea tree oil works for preventing ingrown hairs? I read somewhere that it helps, and plenty of you claim it heals skin irritations and keeps things soft.
I'm dealing with ingrowns in my bikini area, so I’m thinking about trying it.
Anyone got any advice?

My grandmother used to swear by calendula for just about everything, so it would probably help with whatever you're dealing with.
Go ahead and try it—you aren't losing anything by testing it out—though if you ask me, ingrown hairs are usually more of a mechanical issue than a skin texture one.

Look, I get it. I was thinking about doing that along with an exfoliant and everything else, but I just didn't want to mess with harsh chemicals... 🙂 thanks for the reply

Avoid direct sunlight, and definitely watch out if you're taking any medication—mine specifically warns about interactions with St. John's Wort. 🙂

So, how exactly are people using essential oils as an antidepressant?

I actually just got my hands on some homemade oil myself...

I already told you about the sun, and I'm not changing my mind. What exactly do you think happens if you go out there covered in lotion? Is this reaction supposed to be because of the St. John's Wort?

I don't take pills, but I want to know: what's the catch? Does the effectiveness just drop off?

Well, if you call it St. John's Wort oil, we basically use it as a skin balm before and after hitting the beach, it's amazing for sunburns too, and honestly, I've even used St. John's Wort infused suppositories that cleared up all those pesky inflammations and infections that even my antibiotics couldn't touch...

Ugh, tell me about it, I deal with the whole ingrown hair struggle too... honestly, the only way I can manage is by playing surgeon with tweezers and needles, or better yet, just staying far away from razors altogether. I don't even bother shaving anymore, though if I'm heading to the beach for vacation, I'll just stick to waxing the bikini line... there's really no other way when you're dealing with thick hair like ours... lucky blondes, right? lol...🙂

St. Francis herbal oil is honestly a miracle worker for so many things, though I suppose it really comes down to the quality of the maker—it’s hit or miss depending on who you buy it from. I’ve been using it for years, and if I’m being honest, nothing beats the homemade stuff my grandmother used to make—her own olive oil infused with the St. Francis herbs she grew right in her backyard garden. You just let it sit in the sun for exactly 40 days and voilà. I’ve tried the commercial versions you find at places like Walgreens, but they always seem a bit more watered down to me, and I get the feeling they don't quite pack the same punch 😕. They just lack that distinct, rich aroma of high-quality oil.

Now, when it comes to tanning, the oil is great for softening and nourishing your skin, but—and this is important—it offers absolutely zero UV protection. So, please, don't go slathering this on during the peak midday heat; you should probably apply a proper SPF first
. Otherwise, St. Francis herb oil is incredible for drawing out boils, soothing inflammation, helping surgical scars heal—especially for postpartum recovery—treating minor wounds, and even certain gynecological issues (though, obviously, not for every single ailment!). It has proven most effective for those angry, inflamed boils; it seems to pull everything right to the surface. As for ingrown hairs, it might offer some mild relief afterward—at least, that’s how it works for me—but since I’m personally prone to them, the cycle just keeps repeating. I eventually found a better solution for that issue, though: Egyptian hair removal 😍😬

It’s photosensitive (if I’m remembering the term 😁 correctly). You can end up with nasty skin discoloration or spots.

I don't take any pills myself, but I'm wondering: what's the deal there? Does it just make them less effective or something?

On my specific brand (Bellune35), the label claims that St. John's Wort reduces its effectiveness. I suppose that might not apply to every single formulation out there, though. 🙂

Does anyone know if castor oil actually does anything for scars (once the wounds have already closed up)?

Look, if it works, it’s certainly not some kind of miracle cure. I remember stumbling upon an article somewhere mentioning that it can assist with the healing process, but it definitely isn't going to do much once the skin has already finished closing up.

By the way, just a heads-up: it isn't a good idea to use it alongside birth control, or even with benzodiazepines (like Xanax, for instance).

I prepare it myself. Once it's pressed, it needs to be stored in a dark bottle in a dark place.
It works wonders for the skin, burns, and treating fungal infections.

I have an entirely different issue. When I pluck, everything grows back after three weeks only to become inflamed and irritated. If I shave, there's no irritation, but that smoothness doesn't last at all. What am I supposed to do? 🤷

Sure, I believe you, but I’m a bit of a mess. Half the time I pluck, half the time I don't... whatever. 🤦
