New criteria:

Your task is to select two players who found themselves on opposing sides during a local or regional derby within the North American continent.

The rules are that

-neither club can be based in their respective country's capital city.
-the player involved in your chosen derby must have played for a club that finished higher in the standings during that specific season, and they must have received a card of any color during that match.

You are required to provide:

-a link to the match itself.
-a link to the final league standings for that season.

If both players are rejected, you aren't tied to your previous choices; feel free to pivot wherever you like.
If only the player with the card is accepted, you remain tied to that specific match, or perhaps another derby where that same player was carded and his team finished the season ranked higher than their rival.
If only the non-carded player is accepted, you are stuck with any derby that player has ever participated in, regardless of the club. For instance, if you choose two players from the Tyne-Wear derby, but only the Sunderland player passes, you could look for the second player in any derby he played in with Newcastle or Middlesbrough—provided you ensure his club was ranked lower than their rival in that season and that your new pick also ended the match with a card.

The challenge for this new criterion is to identify a player whose very first career transfer occurred after they turned 30.

Loan spells don't count as transfers. So, players who left their clubs before age 30 solely to go on loan do meet the criteria.

Once they hit 30, they can make as many subsequent transfers as they like.

Please submit the player's name, birth year, the year they made that first transfer, and a Wiki profile link to verify everything.

Any entries missing these specific details will be disqualified. I’ve spent enough time digging through the archives to spot even the slightest attempt at cutting corners.

Status after three rounds



It’s almost too predictable. They handed him Yoan Gourcouff like he was some prize sheep, then followed it up with Luis Jimenez.

During the last round, one player dropped out, so I’ve sourced a replacement. A competitor going by the alias Srećko Lušić will be stepping in to take over Mr. Jigsawa's squad.

This will be the final roster swap for this session. Unless someone else decides to bow out, we’ll be wrapping things up with this lineup.

Round 5

The new criterion requires you to pair a player who scored during a knockout stage match of a major continental tournament (Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League) in a fixture where his team was ultimately eliminated, with a player born in that same year.

For instance:
If Player A scored in a 1982 Cup Winners' Cup quarterfinal where his side was knocked out,
Player B must have been born in 1982.

In the event both players are blocked, you face no restrictions during your redraw.
If only Player A qualifies, you are still tied to the year that specific mid-series match took place, and you must select a player born in that year.
If only Player B qualifies, you remain tied to his birth year, but you are free to change the tournaments or matches as you wish.
It doesn't matter whether Player A scored in the first leg or the second.

All matches from the old European Cup, UEFA Cup, and Cup Winners' Cup eras are treated as knockout stage matches.
Since the transition to the modern group stage format, only true knockout rounds count; qualifying rounds are excluded.

To ensure your pick is validated, you must submit the names of both players, links to both club matches for Player A—clearly showing his team's elimination and his goal—and the Wikipedia profile for Player B confirming his birth year.

The deadline for submissions is Sunday, March 6, at 2:00 PM.

I’d suggest double-checking the roster of available players before you submit your picks. A good number of names are already off the table, so it’s easy to make a mistake. I thought about giving everyone a redo if you messed up, but I only just realized the error myself, and I don't want to potentially ruin someone else's pick by shifting the goalposts mid-game.

A few participants tried to pull one over on me. Since I didn't explicitly state that goals scored during penalty shootouts don't count, I've decided to honor those picks—mostly because they wouldn't have won anyway. But keep this in mind: for the second round, shootout goals won't count, nor will goals scored in overtime.

To be clear, only goals scored during regulation play in matches where the chosen striker's team loses (if applicable) will count. No shootouts.

The deadline to submit new picks is tomorrow at 10:00 PM, though we can wrap it up earlier if everyone gets them in ahead of schedule.
