I’m using AT&T mobile data on my hotspot...

I was wondering, what’s the best way to go about changing my IP address?

Is that something I can handle just by swapping out the SIM card, or am I looking at having to replace the entire hotspot device itself?

I have a feeling they’re going to try and hit me with some ridiculous service fee if I ask them to swap things out....

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Which IP address are we talking about here? Are you referring to the WAN address or the local one?

I’m not quite sure I follow enough to give you a pinpoint answer, but let me lay out the situation and maybe you'll see where I'm coming from...

So, here's the deal. I play online poker on this one site. To stay ahead of things, I've got two separate computers running on two different connections—one via cable and the other through a mobile hotspot. If I try to hook both PCs up to the cable connection using a router and attempt to log into the same table with two different profiles, the site kicks back an error saying I can't access the table from a single IP address. That's the specific IP address I'm talking about... if you can figure out what exactly the poker site's server is picking up from all this.

I follow your logic. But now... listen closely here
-if you’re playing directly through a website without relying on any third-party software—just using a standard browser—it’s actually quite straightforward to mask your digital footprint by utilizing a proxy server (you can easily look that up)
-in that scenario, you could even experiment with two different browsers on the exact same machine, despite sharing an IP address; I remember seeing this work perfectly fine back when people were using ZynGames

-now, if you're running things through a specific standalone program, a proxy is still your best bet, though the setup becomes a bit more involved
-trying to force an IP change with certain cable providers can feel like a mission impossible, since they tend to hold onto your DNS settings for days at a time

even if you manage to swap it, you'll likely find both computers are still tied together... you won't gain much ground without a proxy

-ultimately, we end up looking at mobile data, which provides you with a completely separate IP address, so I suppose what you're actually hunting for is a third option altogether?
-mobile internet is remarkably fluid; sometimes it's so dynamic that the IP address cycles itself several times within a single hour

It’s an app I just downloaded from the web and installed. It’s pretty lightweight, only about 50MB.

So, here’s the deal. I was playing on one PC using Profile X, then switched over to a second PC using that same Profile X. Both were hooked up to the same router. Later, I set up Profile Y, and tried running Profile X on one machine while running Profile Y on the other. I couldn't join the same table, obviously—the server catches that both profiles are pulling from the same IP address and kicks me out with a message saying, "Cannot join table; player with the same IP is already present." But honestly, that’s not my main concern... The real issue is that the earnings from two separate profiles end up being exactly the same as if I were just playing on one. If things aren't working on the first computer with Profile X, they aren't working on the second one with Profile Y either. Maybe it's because I used the same profile on both machines initially, so the server just sees them as a single entity? Or maybe it's because I'm using the same high-speed cable connection for both... though I suspect it's the first thing, because I'm seeing this exact same pattern now even when I have one connected via cable and the other running on a mobile hotspot.

I confirmed this theory after I borrowed a PC and an internet connection from my neighbor. I played on my own rig and his machine using his profile. In that setup, the earnings actually doubled; sometimes it worked on one, sometimes the other, sometimes both at once... it didn't act like my two accounts do where they're stuck in sync.

Now I'm thinking about picking up another laptop to keep it completely fresh. I'd really prefer to have a totally clean internet connection too, just in case the app flags that specific hardware or IP from previous sessions.

I know, I know, I'm rambling and probably annoying you all, but this is serious stuff for me. This is literally how I pay my bills...

Thanks for the help.

Well, I think you might be trying to trick him just to get your way... 🙂

I’d suggest running CCleaner on both machines to clear out the junk, then setting up a separate user profile on each one.

Make sure you close out all your active programs first.

It’s likely that the installation process is leaving behind old cookies or leftover cache files, which can cause all sorts of headaches if you aren't careful.

It’s not cheating. I mean, sure, if I were sitting at the same table using two different accounts, that would be a bit shady... but that's not what I do. It’s not because I’m some kind of saint, it’s just not my style.😁I play multiple accounts across various different tables, and honestly, nobody is getting screwed over by that. The poker site actually makes more money from it, and the other players aren't at any disadvantage compared to me. Personally, I don't really care how many profiles someone else is running; it doesn't change my strategy or my bottom line one bit. At the end of the day, it's all down to player discretion... that's the only thing that matters.......

You could argue that the poker sites themselves are the ones rigging things, though even that isn't quite the right way to put it. They are constantly hunting for a way to balance the ecosystem between the sharks and the fish... they design software that gives the weaker players a better "look" against the pros just to keep them from quitting. That's the game I'm actually fighting against, haha... everyone is just looking out for number one and trying to squeeze out a little extra profit.

Thanks again, and cheers.
