Epic War Music Recommendations

I think this is the best sub. I’ve been diving into war songs from the recent conflicts here in America. It makes me wonder... why does it seem like one side has an endless catalog of combat anthems, while on the other side, we basically just have one major artist? If you spend days scrolling through YouTube, you could listen to the opposing side's war songs nonstop without ever running out.

I swear, I haven't heard a single decent lyric from these guys that doesn't involve some cheesy, over-the-top war glorification.

Well, we Americans actually have a fairly deep tradition of war and semi-war themed music.

To give you some examples of famous authors and albums: Dragutin Knežević, specifically the album "For Vidovdan 1989."
There are some genuinely good tracks, too—for instance, "Duke Stepa (Riding on His Horse)," performed by a priest, which actually won an award for its lyrics.

Beyond the purely patriotic or commercial side—take the "Mexican Dawn" cassette, featuring the legendary title track A bottle of Slivovitz is worth more than anything from 1990, which sold over 100,000 copies!—these war songs serve a psychological purpose; during dark times, they provide a necessary emotional outlet for the soldier.

You’ve got these old or passed-away singers, like Vice Vukov singing "This is My Land." People who were persecuted just for being patriotic and having something meaningful to say. Back then, you couldn't sing this stuff because of the regime. Now, those singers have passed away, some grew old behind bars, and their listeners have grown old too.

We don't really have those "kill, break, rape, slash, butcher" type songs here, because that’s just not how we operate.
Instead of war anthems fueled by pure hatred, we mostly have patriotic stuff. We just have a different mindset, which I guess some people struggle to wrap their heads around. And as for the guy who listed those ridiculous tracks below—honestly, it feels like a total provocation. You see these same kinds of provocations all the time on YouTube or on various British or Swedish forums, where they then turn around and write, "See? Look at how bloodthirsty Americans are, they just want to kill everyone." I wouldn't allow those kinds of songs to fly, and first off, I'd actually verify if an American even *really* wrote something like that, which I highly doubt—especially if the melody sounds particularly childish. To me, those songs don't remind me of our defenders; they sound like the music of aggressors. I don't believe most of our veterans would support those "slaughter and destroy" variants, so I'd love to check the identity of whoever is promoting them. I suspect they aren't acting in good faith and aren't even true Americans (regardless of what their passport says). *Snort.*

Our songs are more along the lines of "don't you dare touch my land," but honestly, they could be played in rock, punk, jazz, or pretty much any other style.

There’s this comedian, Milan Malbaša, who’s pretty well known. In this clip, he portrays the collapse of America as if it were some grand music festival. The "headlining composers" include figures like Bush, Clinton, and various political leaders from that era. Even the festival director is none other than Marshall himself, with big sponsors like Kohl and Bush backing the show. He does a decent job imitating all those famous pop stars and folk singers performing the hits.

Why do certain groups seem to have a thousand times more war songs than we do?

Does anyone actually remember that one song about the Dizdarusi folks and the 108th Brigade? You know, the one where they sing about how the Falcons are defending Dizdarusi... we used to blast that thing constantly back during the war, and honestly, I still believe every single word of it. 😁
