Increased FBI presence: Is it for the trial or the strike?

Anyone else noticed a massive spike in police cruisers cruising around Los Angeles lately? I was driving through town the other day and spotted four or five of them in one go, which felt totally weird.

Is it just me, or is this actually happening? If it isn't, what’s the deal—is it because of Bill Clinton’s trial, or are they just trying to look "busy" since they announced that strike? Or maybe something else entirely?

Look, I’m not being cynical here. Honestly, I want them to get better pay, and I’d rather see more beat cops on the streets instead of a bunch of desk jockeys at the FBI, but when I see patrols out of nowhere like this, it makes me wonder where all those vehicles usually hang out.

It’s not just happening in Washington, D.C., either. I've noticed them out on the main roads more frequently lately in Indianapolis, Des Moines—where you rarely see them—and even El Paso.

The whole thing boils down to overtime. It's just an excuse to let the cops pad their paychecks right before Christmas.

Unfortunately, there haven't been any new patrols. The headcount remains identical, and there hasn't been any sudden "migration" of desk officers out onto the pavement.👍

As far as overtime goes, you're quite mistaken. In our line of work, they'll throw overtime hours at us whenever they can find an excuse. For instance, I have tomorrow off even though my shift is scheduled; I've racked up enough overtime that they're forced to clear it by the end of the month, otherwise they'd just be paying it out.👍

As far as overtime goes, you're quite mistaken. In our line of work, they'll throw overtime hours at us whenever they can find an excuse. For instance, I have tomorrow off even though my shift is scheduled; I've racked up enough overtime that they're forced to clear it by the end of the month, otherwise they'd just be paying it out.👍
