I've been dealing with these damn allergies for a long time now—mostly peanut allergies, which is a total nightmare. For the longest time, Dimetindene was pretty much my only lifeline; it was the one thing that actually worked to shut down the swelling and all that other mess immediately after a reaction. But now, apparently, they aren't making it anymore. Does anyone happen to know if there's a decent substitute out there in pill form? Basically, I’m just looking for something that hits the same way Dimetindene does.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

The substitute would be Benadryl, which you can pick up here in the US. A box usually runs about $8.25. I guess if you can manage it, just stock up for the whole year so you don't have to worry about it later. But, if you already know you have a peanut allergy, you really need to avoid it at all costs—just make sure to check the ingredient labels on everything...

Yeah, there are a few different types of Benadryl out there. Personally, I find those newer BENADRYL ALLERGY AND SINUS HEADACHE KAPGELS work best for me...

See an allergist $\rightarrow$ get tested to find the triggers $\rightarrow$ start prescription desensitization therapy.
It’s the only way to go if you actually want results.

By the way, why on earth are you eating peanuts when you already KNOW they mess you up?!

I’d heard about Benadryl before, but I wasn't actually sure if it was the exact same thing as Dimetindene. Thanks for clearing that up.

As for the peanuts—that's just one of several things I'm allergic to, unfortunately. I don't eat them myself, and I'm pretty meticulous about reading labels on everything I touch. But, you know how it goes—sometimes someone who's been snacking on peanuts won't wash their hands properly, and if they come near me, I'll have a reaction.
It's been like this since I was born, and now that I'm 23, I've basically mapped out all my triggers. Still, things can flare up unexpectedly, so I feel like I need to have something on hand that can shut the whole situation down immediately.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop in and let you know that you can find Benadryl over in Denmark too—my husband uses it for his allergies all the time. And I’m pretty sure they carry it under the exact same name in Germany, too, since my brother-in-law was taking it a few years back and mentioned it to my husband.

Are you actually positive they aren't making those anymore? Because if I remember right, I literally just picked some up this past summer 😕
