Good grief! That definitely wasn't me!!! 😁

The closer you are to the goal, the better. Basically:
goalkeeper: solid;
defense: alright;
midfield: absolute garbage
striker: worse than garbage.

Using that same scale, I’d say I perform best behind the net, beer in hand. 😁

Back in high school, I was actually quite decent at itβ€”top of my class and all that sort of thing. Since starting college, though, I’ve only been playing about once every two weeks, so I’m definitely not exactly in peak physical condition these days.

Zidane and Beckham are actual midfielders. You and I? We’re just guys stuck in the middle of the pitch. πŸ™‚

People call me Gattusoβ€”mostly because of the facial hair rather than my work rate, though by the end of the game, I’m usually one heartbeat away from a full-blown cardiac arrest.

I usually play keeper or hang out somewhere on the right side. Striker just isn't my thing; I hate having to constantly track back when all I want to do is thread those insane, vision-heavy through balls. πŸ™„
Lately, though, I can't even pull off the stuff I see in my head, so I just tell everyone I'm much better at playing defense.

spike - just go watch Camus; he was a solid goalie until an injury cut his career short.

If I can even manage to find that midfield after about thirty minutes of play... 😁

Defense is my game. Some days I’m feeling totally dialed in, so I can hold it down anywhere on the field. My long balls are solid, and I’ve got a good vertical... I used to be lightning fast back in the day, but it's been a while since I played, so I'm definitely feeling the rust now.

I actually quit playing soccer back in high school; the constant tackling just got under my skin, so I switched over to basketballβ€”at least there you're mostly just getting hit in the hands or the head.
I suppose I had decent skills, especially when it came to passing, and I was pretty much impossible to get past on defense.
I tried joining a few pickup games with some guys from my office recently, but it was an absolute disaster. It felt like I’d lost all touch with my feet, almost as if I were playing on crutches; I know exactly what I need to do in my head, but my legs just won't cooperate. My coordination is basically zero. It’s a bit frustrating, I guess, because I used to be quite good and played with a lot of gritβ€”I was a defensive midfielder with a solid vertical, thanks to being 6'3".
