I’m not entirely sure if this is the right corner of the internet to be asking this, but here goes...

So, I filed a formal complaint against the former owner of my car because they pulled a fast one on me regarding the mileage. It turns out I actually bought the vehicle from a dealership rather than the individual owner directly. The police have already forwarded my report over to the District Attorney's office, and now I'm just sitting here wondering how long the wheels are going to turn before anything actually happens. If the DA decides to move forward with the case—or whatever the legal term is for them actually taking it seriously—what does that actually mean for me? Like, what do I actually get out of all this effort?

First off, they seriously need to decide if they’re actually going to file those charges or just toss the whole criminal case out the window so we can move forward with a private lawsuit instead.

There’s a real possibility the District Attorney might file the indictment only to pull the plug halfway through the trial... if that happens, the victim actually has the right to step in and take over the prosecution themselves (basically acting as the private prosecutor).

Is there actually a set timeline for when they’ll announce a decision, or am I just stuck waiting indefinitely? And more importantly, is there any way to actually track my case status or reach out to someone to find out where things stand right now? I’ve been scouring their website for answers, but it’s basically a digital dead end...

Honestly, just give them a call. It's the simplest way to get an answer....
