Has anyone here actually tried to get their overdraft limit bumped up? I'm curious what kind of limits you guys are sitting on right now.

Can someone walk me through the registration process for Chime in detail?
I'm based in America and need an address and zip code from Pittsburgh, but when I select Austria as the country, it starts asking for a Tax ID. Is there any way to actually get that ID, or can it be bypassed somehow?

Your Tax ID is basically just our version of a Social Security Number

I tried entering my Social Security number, but the field just turns red and flags it as an incorrect digit
I’ve attempted this through Safari, Chrome, various apps, using Wi-Fi, and even switching over to mobile data. Nothing works.

It’s not working for me either, but how much do I actually know about their SSN? Is it even 10 digits?

For me, my SSN is listed correctly along with the US as my country. Mind you, I actually use N26 from Germany rather than the Canadian version

I managed to get my account open. I selected Germany as the country and used my home address here in the States, then switched the tax info over to the US and entered my Social Security number—everything went through without a hitch. I finished the video verification, sent over the $20 initial deposit, and the account is live. My only question is about ordering the physical card; since I listed Germany as the country, I'm not sure how that works, though I don't actually need one anyway. 🙂

Has anyone else dealt with a bank flat-out refusing to open an account for them?

Does anyone with a bit of sense know which ATM actually lets you make a deposit into a Chime account? And more importantly, is it even possible to deposit cash at an ATM here in the States?

As of January 1st, 2023, you can't deposit Euros at an ATM here in the States.

Right, I was actually thinking about going with the blue card just to be safe. But what if I headed over to Canada? Would I be able to use any random ATM there for my Mastercard?

I honestly don't think that's even a thing. You can't just walk up to a Chase ATM right now and deposit cash straight into a Zalando account.

You should probably check the Chime website to see if they even offer that service. From what I can tell, in Germany they only let you deposit via partner retailers—they don't mention ATMs at all. Besides, they hit you with a 1.5% fee for deposits anyway.

In Germany, you can actually deposit cash directly onto your card at an ATM. Since I lost my phone—which was linked to my banking app—I needed to update my registered number. They told me the only way to trigger the change was to make a cash deposit at an ATM, regardless of how much I put in, and then wait about 24 hours for the update to process. It sounds a bit nonsensical, but there you go...

You can deposit cash at an ATM here in America too, but there's a catch: you have to use an ATM from the same bank that issued your card. For instance, if you have a Chase account, you can use a Chase ATM to deposit money into it. If you have a Wells Fargo account, you'd use a Wells Fargo machine. You can't just walk up to a Wells Fargo ATM and try to deposit cash into your Chase account.

Hi there, does anyone have any experience trying to open a Chime account using an Austrian address? I’ve been attempting to get through the process, but whenever I reach the tax ID section and select the US as my country to enter my Social Security number, the system just hangs. It won't let me proceed at all; it just stays stuck on that exact page without throwing any error messages or anything.

So I tried opening an account. I set the country to Canada, put in my SSN, then added the US and entered my tax ID. I sent over all the screenshots and got rejected the next day because apparently Chime isn't available in my region. Looks like you can't just pretend you live in another country to get around it anymore.

Does anyone have any idea if Chime will be available next year once the US switches over to the new currency?

I honestly just don't get the hype surrounding these digital banks compared to the traditional ones. They aren't offering anything that the big players like Chase or Bank of America don't already provide. Sure, they might boast about lower fees, but that feels like such a trivial advantage in the grand scheme of things. Plus, there’s that nagging sense of insecurity with them. I actually work in IBM, and while I’m personally not much of a fan of the banking industry, I was really hoping to find some actual value proposition here—but I'm seeing absolutely nothing. It seems to me that the established institutions are modernizing their digital services way faster than these fintech startups can come up with any meaningful ways to stand out. When they start bragging about "cool spending charts" and visual analytics... please, it's just laughable.
