Pre-built PC builds or...

Greetings. My sister is looking to buy a computer, primarily for Photoshop, photo editing, illustration, and graphic design. My brother-in-law also wants something he can use for gaming. Any recommendations?

They found these few pre-built configurations. Are these actually good for what they need, or is it better to just pick out their own components? Would you build this at Future IT?
They have a Dell monitor, plus a keyboard and mouse.

That would be a $4,500 spend. Is it worth it? $1667 No Windows included.

We’re thinking about picking up Windows 10 to run on two different computers. Is that even legal if you aren't running a business?

Why does this configuration lack an HDD? Is one actually necessary? I have one running alongside my SSD in my own rig.

Intel Core i5 4.4GHz
8GB RAM
256GB SSD plus a 1TB HDD
GeForce GTX 1660 6GB

It went for about $450
It came with Windows
10 OEM DVD version, which was on sale along with the PC itself

An HDD and an SSD serve the same basic purpose, it's just that an SSD is significantly faster and more responsive. Only a few years ago, a terabyte of SSD storage cost four times as much, making it unthinkable to include that kind of capacity in a high-end build like this.

Right now is actually a great time to pick up a new setup, especially since SSD prices have dropped so much. You definitely won't regret opting for just the SSD—plus, you won't have to deal with that annoying clicking noise from a spinning HDD 🙂 )

Is an Intel Core i5 better or Ryzen for graphic design?

Does anyone have suggestions for a new build suitable for graphic design using parts from Future IT? My budget is around $4,500 - $1667. It doesn't need to match my initial list. It just needs to work. Thanks.

Check this build out (it's right there in the second post). Honestly, for what you’re paying, you could probably squeeze in an even better Intel Core i5 4.4GHz or maybe a beefier NVMe SSD if you really wanted to flex. It's totally up to you, though.

Just looking at an AMD desktop setup with a Ryzen 7—8 cores, 16 threads, clocking in at 4.35GHz. It’s got 20MB and a 105W draw. I guess it's a solid little workhorse, maybe.
I guess I'm looking at a single 16GB Crucial kit—that's two 8GB sticks of DDR4 running at 3000 MT/s.
One Zalman T6 Midi-Tower ATX case, no power supply included.
Just one SilentiumPC Vero L2 500W, 80+ Bronze power supply.
Just one Gainward GeForce GTX 1650.Sweet. Maybe Pegasus with 4GB? I guess.
A single B450M PRO4.
Just one Gigabyte 240GB SSD, 2.5", SATA III, hitting around 500MB/s reads and 420MB/s writes.
Just one 1TB WD Blue hard drive, 7200 RPM.

If we swap in a larger SSD, will it work with this setup?

GIGABYTE SSD 480GB, SATA III, 3D NAND TLC, 550MBs/480MBs

Of course, a larger one would fit in much better; this setup was just a compromise because of my budget....

I also need a DVD drive; I forgot to mention that. Any recommendations? Can I just pick up any random one?

Yeah, just get the cheapest one available.

The cooler comes with the processor.

Yeah, just make sure there isn't a massive price difference.

Zulu, you're totally right. They’re pretty much identical—the only real difference is a slightly weaker processor and a bigger SSD. But honestly, I've never seen them go on sale at Best Buy for more than they are now.

IBM, regarding the DVD drive... I actually just went out and bought my own at Best Buy a while back for about $100. The one built into my old computer was useless; it couldn't even recognize discs with DRM protection, let alone read them properly.
But then I got this newer external DVD drive, and it worked like a charm! It still works perfectly today—it reads everything, whether it's original discs or burned ones (music, photos, important docs).
I mostly used it for movies and music, but I had to get it because my old setup couldn't run things, especially right when Sims 3 first came out.
