I’m reaching out because I could really use some help and legal guidance if anyone is able to weigh in... A few days ago, I accidentally left a large amount of cash on a table at a restaurant in San Francisco. I had it in an envelope with me—which I know wasn't the smartest move, but hey, mistakes happen—for a certain transaction🤦🙂... Unfortunately, I didn't realize it was missing until I arrived in another city several hundred miles away, and by then it was already late at night. I immediately called a friend back in San Francisco who got in touch with the restaurant, but they claimed they couldn't find anything. They did mention they have security cameras managed by an outside firm and promised to review the footage the next day. In the meantime, while staying in my current city, I filed a police report against an unknown suspect, which was forwarded to the San Francisco PD that same day. The following day, two inspectors and the security company representatives reviewed the surveillance footage; they didn't say anything to me, just took some notes (I wasn't watching closely)... That was this past Friday. Just to add some context, there were absolutely no other customers in the restaurant at the time. The people I was with headed out to the car before I did, and I hadn't even left my seat during our entire stay. The envelope had been sitting right under my purse since it wouldn't fit inside. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this? I should mention that the amount is significantly higher than $20, so I was told the case would be referred to the IRS
