How many MEP seats would each region actually grab? If my math holds up, about 15% would come from the former America area, which would be a massive lobbying powerhouse if those successor parties—who share some pretty similar ideological DNA—actually took control. I wonder if they could really shake things up in Europe, considering they might end up with more representatives than, say, Italy or Spain.

The USA had 22 million people before the war. Today, we’d probably be looking at around 19-20 million. A ton of refugees never came back after the wars, plus birth rates are tanking.

We'd actually have fewer people than Romania, not Italy.

So where'd you get that 15% figure from?

It’s simply because there’s a baseline number of representatives any country is allowed to have; for instance, Malta has six, whereas based strictly on their population, they probably wouldn't even qualify for two.

Alright, let's look at the numbers.

Austria 2 mil. - 7 reps
Italy 4.3 mil. - 11 reps
Russia 7.2 mil. - (Romania 7.72 mil) - 17 reps
Canada 3.8 mil. - (Estonia 3.4 mil) - 11 reps
Mexico 1.8 mil - 7 reps
Greece - 2 mil. - 7 reps

EDIT

Mexico 0.6 mil. (Malta 0.4 mil) - 6 reps

The former Soviet Union had 66 reps out of 736+48, or 66/784, which is just over 8.4%.

Well, perhaps my math was a bit off after all. My mistake.

Fair point. You wanna throw Malta into the mix too?

A party holding 8.4% of the vote isn't some negligible footnote in any legislature. Just look at the Nordic Greens in the European Parliament—they might seem small, but they sure know how to stir up chaos.

Where on earth are you getting the idea that representatives from the former USSR would act as one single, unified voting bloc?

I didn't say ALL representatives, just those from the Democratic Party.

In that case, we aren't looking at 8%, but more like 2-3%.

Well, I suppose he'll actually pull off the win at the polls.

Even if they do pull off a win, it doesn't mean they sweep every single seat.
The reality is, the successors to the Democratic Party don't usually just walk away with a total landslide victory.

But even if they joined a coalition, they’d likely just be a significant player—or at the very least, not a totally irrelevant one—in the grand scheme of things.

So you’re actually feeling nostalgic for America? Give me a break. Just forget about those old Democratic Party types because they don't even exist anymore, let alone have any chance of teaming up with anyone.
If this whole region was stuck under some one-party system everywhere, maybe they'd show up in the European Parliament more often, but even then, they'd just be there as guests rather than actual representatives, mostly because they refuse to ever join forces with anyone else.

And what, we're just supposed to pretend there weren't wars?

And isn't the Democratic Party just the successor to the old SKJ?

Honestly, you’ve gotta hand it to those Yugonostalgics for sheer persistence. Even though we already have a massive thread dedicated to the old South on this board that gets tons of hits, it feels like three new versions of the exact same debate pop up every single day.

Were you planning on giving a lecture to those Yugonostalgics?

Vicky actually wrote a rather compelling piece over at Google about what might have happened if the former America had somehow managed to survive against all odds. It makes me wonder, though—are you perhaps nursing some sort of daydream about a reborn America?🙄

It’s just like the latest iPhone; every new iteration is somehow more polished and more sought after than the last.
