So I need someone to send me some cash from Denmark,
what's the best way to move 250€ without getting ripped off?
Western Union used to charge me a ton $133, so I'm not sure if it's still worth it.

Thanks a bunch!

Maybe try Skrill or just go straight to your Chase account? Honestly, dealing with those transfer fees is such a headache $3.25

Just open a USD account and you're all set.
What's the big deal? 😁

I tried using my foreign currency account too, and they hit me with fees just the same—his bank and mine both took a cut.
Honestly, I'm stumped. Is it just one of those shady banks, or what?
It was Chase.

I mean, just give them a call! Explain the whole situation—like, which specific transaction you're talking about—and ask them straight up what their fee is for processing an incoming wire in your case.
I'm telling you, there are banks right here in the States that'll handle all that for $3.25

And honestly, what "his" bank charges them for international wire transfers is totally out of your hands. That’s just how things work in the USA, I guess... it's kind of $10.

Basically, if the sending and receiving banks are partners, you’re looking at maybe $1.50,
but if they don't work together directly and the money has to bounce through some other bank first, they'll hit you with way higher fees.

Nobody ever said anything like that.
Honestly, it sounds like you might be tripping on some mushrooms or something

I'm just repeating what my contact at Chase told me over the phone, 🤦 😁

Aha.

So you're telling me he’s swimming all the way from Norway? Like, maybe a little bit toward Spain, then straight through the Mediterranean Sea?
And does he go through the English Channel, or does he take a detour up past the Irish Highlands? 😁

That sounds like a pretty wild story to me.

Here is a fresh example from today—a transfer from an individual in Norway to a local USD account at JP Morgan Chase.

c/p
------------

Original amount . . . . . . . . . . . : SEK 9,000.00
Amount in USD . . . . . . . . . . . . : 732.69
Mid-market rate . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.814100
Foreign bank fees . . . . . . . . . . :
Domestic bank fees . . . . . . . . . . :
Paying bank fee . . . . . . . . . . . . : SEK 75.51 USD 6.00
Fee conversion rate . . . . . . . . . . : 0.794600
Final amount available . . . . . . . . : USD 709.14
Conversion rate to other currency . . : 0.794600

----------

So, after sending 9,000 SEK, I’m left with $709.14—I suppose I have no idea what the sender was charged. It took two days to clear.

So, I guess $20 they went ahead and took your benefits

Seriously, go find yourself a better bank—honestly. I’m out here getting hit with a $10 fee every single time I make a transfer from the USA to anywhere else on the planet, regardless of how much I'm actually sending. Charging $133 just for a standard transaction is absolutely insane
