Jesus, what a ridiculous take 🙄
If he borrowed it, then $3.25, it's his property and he’s got every right to get it back.

It's not like some radical leftist; his best friend probably just owes him a few bucks.
Forgive him🤷 and move on.

You shouldn't be chasing someone all over town for cash. Besides, he wrote that he'd pay it back.
He even mentioned he won't go hungry because of this amount. Forgive the debt and just don't
lend to him again.

He never actually said they were his best friend 🤔

I honestly don't see any reason why he should forgive anyone's debt. I mean, someone who borrows cash should probably realize they eventually have to pay it back
.
Marko mentioned he asked for the money because he’s got bills coming up soon. Like, should he just lose out on his own cash just because his buddy has zero shame? I don't get it.

If you're going to lend money, just set a clear deadline for when it’s due. Don't just say
"whenever you have it." People will take advantage of that, drag their feet, and it can go on
for a long time.

Besides, what if his friend is broke and can't even scrape the dough together? How is he supposed to
repay him quickly then?

I mean, usually when people lend money to friends, it's because they're broke right then, so setting a hard deadline is always tricky. 🤷

A buddy of mine was skint for like nine months, and now he’s suddenly acting all tight with his cash. It isn't really an issue for the person lending it; it's more about the person taking it. I can't help but wonder if Chase would let him skip nine months of payments and then just wave the debt away.

Ugh, this hits way too close to home for me...

Back in the fall of 2003, I decided to lend some cash to a "friend" who was going through a really rough patch$1667 for a few months

2003!!

And just like that—poof. Gone. No texts, no letters, no calls, nothing. Just total radio silence.

As if helping her out wasn't enough, I actually handed over $3,000. Now? Not a single trace of her, even though we live in the same damn city.

Lesson learned: if you’re looking to absolutely torch a friendship, all you have to do is lend someone money.

Quincy:
I don't know what you're trying to get at here. Is there actually a point to this? kaže:
It’s not exactly a fortune—barely three of my daily wages.🙄

I’m glad you’re pulling in more than I am—really, I am—but let’s be realistic about the situation for both of us. $167 It’s not even the same ballpark—you pull that kind of cash in three days, whereas for me, it takes a hell of a lot longer.

Quincy:
I don't know what to tell you. Just one more thing to deal with. kaže:
He’s hardly some radical leftist—his best friend probably just feeds him nothing but cheap takeout.
Forgive me.🤷

There’s really no need to spend your day chasing someone around town just to get paid—especially when they already gave you their word they'd settle up. Why make it a pursuit?
He even admitted it himself—he isn't going to let himself go hungry just to settle some debt. Forgive his arrears once, maybe. But after this? No more.
He lends.
He’s not exactly my best friend—I’d probably bail him out if he were genuinely starving—but if he’s got enough cash for nights out and packs of Marlboros, then he certainly has enough to settle his debt with me. 🤷 I don't have an issue with how he spends his money—or whether he goes out on the town—but I figured if he’s living that lifestyle, there should be enough left over for me. As it turns out, there was. Once he heard my deadline for the funds, he just said, "No problem."

I’m done lending out my cash—that chapter is closed. But don't get it twisted—I have absolutely no intention of just letting my money walk away. 🙂

Quincy:
I don't know what you're trying to get at here—is there actually a point to this? If you have something to say, just say it. Otherwise, why bother? kaže:
If you’re going to borrow money, just be upfront about the deadline—tell them exactly when it’s coming back instead of leaving them guessing. Why make it complicated?
It doesn't matter. When you finally get your hands on it, make sure you leverage it—get out while you can. Opportunities like this don't just vanish; they can collapse entirely if you wait too long. Why sit around waiting for a better moment that might never come?
It’s been a while.

And what if his friend is just some useless hanger-on who can't actually deliver the cash? What then?
Will the money be back soon?
That’s exactly what I told him—that was my position from the start. It isn't like I suddenly flipped my script after a week. Nine months is a long time to be sitting on an opinion. 🤷

The man said he’d make it right—and I don't doubt him for a second.
