I honestly don't care that they cast a dark-skinned actress—she’s actually quite lovely. My real curiosity is how they plan to handle her makeup and styling. As she looks right now, I just can't see her playing a mermaid. She doesn't quite fit that classic, ethereal beauty you expect from a siren. Maybe it's the spacing of her eyes or just her facial structure, but it doesn't quite click for me. I'm not saying she isn't attractive—far from it—it's just that I can't visualize her in this specific role.

I’m coming back to this because honestly... after months of watching them try on every single person of color for the role of Prince Eric, @DisneyStudios still managed to land on a white guy. Apparently, "diversity" is nothing more than a buzzword to them. But hey, THATS Hollywood. It seems one person of color is plenty; having two leads? Absolutely unthinkable...

I don't even need to see the trailer. The second I spot "Ariel," I already know this movie is going to be a mess. If you're so hell-bent on forcing a diversity cast, then fine—just have them voice Sebastian or the seagull instead of changing a redheaded Ariel. 🤦

Ariel samo Meera is pretty much the only female redhead from comics or books who hasn't been hit by a race swap.

A clip just leaked online of a girl singing—and wow, she is seriously impressive! I’m actually looking forward to this live-action version, even though I usually find these Disney-esque remakes to be pretty soulless and dull. Lol.

I guess I’m just a little bummed that not every character ended up being a POC—including Eric—because then, you know, everyone would actually be happy and satisfied.

What if Eric was trans?

I’ll bet anything they make that fat octopus thin—because let's face it, being overweight isn't exactly "aesthetic"—and I guarantee they’ll go with some horror-inspired vibe that'll give kids nightmares. Same goes for those eels; it'll be like watching Shark.

Honestly, I have no idea who these Disney animated films are even targeting anymore.

Ursula is basically Melissa McCarthy—total white trash vibes, obviously. But honestly, it’s kind of interesting how in the animated version, Ursula is basically the blueprint for any plus-sized drag queen (especially those vocal performances). I guess we were seeing "progressiveness" back in '94 or whenever.
