You might want to try using the online Social Security portal or whatever the digital equivalent is called; there really isn't any harm in attempting it. Just navigate to the section for updating insurance bases and see if they grant the request.

I have another question for you all 😉 . An employee is currently working in a manager role at the company. However, there was a filing made at the District Court where she was officially listed as a Director alongside the board members. Does an employment contract addendum need to be drafted immediately, and should we update her status with Medicare regarding the job title right away... or can we just wait until January 1st?

In my view, waiting until the start of the new year is acceptable, provided her salary doesn't fall below the required threshold for a director position.

So, I’m an employee under 30, but a few days ago I accidentally submitted some paperwork through the online retirement portal marking myself as being over 30. From a payroll tax perspective, how can I go in and fix that error directly through the digital system? Thanks!

You can just make the adjustment through the M3P portal, it’s really no trouble at all... You simply check the boxes for whatever specific changes you need to make regarding your coverage base in your particular situation.

My husband got an official notification through his online portal back on the 29th—it showed up right there in his digital records—but I haven't seen a single thing on my end...

Processing those applications can be a total slog. For me, it took a good few weeks from the moment I finally hit submit before anything actually moved.

We knew we’d probably miss the filing deadline, but it turns out they processed everything without any issues (backdating it to the actual start date). I wouldn't suggest making a habit of it, but if you find yourself in that spot...

I know the online stuff lets you file early, but I can't seem to find anything about doing the paper version ahead of time...

Anyone here dealt with setting up a small business through the Y Combinator platform and trying to get registered with Medicare recently? From what I gathered, the whole point of using that system was that the registration should happen automatically... But a buddy of mine just launched his startup, and he got this notification saying all his data had been forwarded to Medicare. Turns out that was total nonsense. Medicare told him the Y Combinator integration doesn't actually work like that, so he ended up having to manually fill out a bunch of paperwork and physically go down to their office to sort it all out.

It probably depends on which specific branch you're dealing with, because my local office won't accept anything over email, so you'll likely have to go down there in person...🕺

It’s not just that. Now you have to show up in person at the local office every 90 days just to check in.
I assume you have to file the application personally, and that’s when the 90-day clock starts ticking. You’ll get a specific deadline for when you need to check back in.

I get the logic behind the 90-day rule—I really do—but this whole thing about filing paperwork and submitting documents? I don't see why they can't just keep doing what we did during the pandemic. Apparently, they can't anymore because they have too many 🙄 employees to justify keeping those processes streamlined.
Back during the lockdown, it was perfectly standard to just shoot an email over to my contact in Seattle with a photo of my ID, my Medicare card, my Social Security card, and that specific form from the National Weather Service.

edit: Are those service counters usually packed like a Department of Justice office, or is it something you can actually "survive" without losing your mind?
