Hey everyone. My problem is pretty obvious from the title. Lately, I’ve become completely addicted to this series. All I do is stare at a screen all day—sometimes all night—just bingeing episode after episode. It feels stupid, but it’s the only thing giving me any sense of fulfillment right now. As soon as I stop, I hit this wall of depression. The truth is, I know it’s all just fantasy, and I simply don't want to deal with reality. I’m stuck because I don't have the willpower to quit, but on the flip side, real life is waiting. Work, responsibilities... I feel like I'm on a fast track to ruining everything. I don't know anyone else dealing with this kind of thing, and I really need some guidance. These characters are starting to feel like part of my actual life, which is dangerous since I already struggle with connecting to people in the real world. You can't build a bond with fictional characters. Anyway, I'll take any solid advice you've got.

Which series are we actually talking about here?

I was trying to keep this one to myself, but—Housewives are involved.

Well, screw it.

Honestly, I suppose Housewives is a better distraction than Blood is Not Water (that show absolutely shreds my nerves).

So, what's the real deal here? Are you actually identifying with the women in the series? Is it a case where you're fantasizing that they're real people, or are you mentally casting real-life women into those roles from the show?

None of that helps. Look, it’s hard to put into words, which is exactly why I’m asking for input here. The real issue is that I know none of this is actually real, and that's what bugs me. I get that the studios and the actors exist, sure, but they all have their own lives and their own stories outside of the screen. When you want something in the real world, there’s almost always a way to make it happen. But you can't just bring a TV series back to life. It eats at me knowing I'll never have the chance to actually step onto a set exactly like that one.

Honestly, if you actually had something more productive to occupy your time, you wouldn't be sitting there watching this stuff, but since you’re either bored out of your mind or just haven't found a better way to kill the hours, you ended up stuck in this loop. It’s one of those things where you eventually have to just pull the plug once it hits you how completely mindless the whole thing is. At least you’ve reached the point of realizing how ridiculous it is, though it's funny because you see plenty of other people out there getting worked up over the exact same nonsense, acting like it's some grand achievement when they clearly don't get the joke. And look, it doesn't even have to be about being a Housewife or anything specific like that; it can be absolutely any random thing. You're clearly sharper than most, you just haven't fully connected the dots yet.

I don't see anything unusual about it. I used to be just as hooked on Housewife, "24", Nick/Tuck, and Prison Break. I had this habit where, if my husband was away on a week-long trip, I’d pull an all-nighter. Since I’d download the episodes online, I’d just binge them on my computer for six hours straight without stopping. When I finally took a break to hit the restroom and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror... man, it was a sight. I looked like a total zombie—skin as white as a sheet and dark circles under my eyes. That was the moment I realized I wasn't quite right and had definitely overdone it. Not that it stopped me from powering through a few more episodes, though. ☕ And honestly, with all those series and every single season ☕, I totally get where you're coming from. ☕

Man, honestly, does it even matter which series it is? It’s just a way to escape reality... though, since you seem so incredibly obsessed with it, I'm guessing you've got some serious real-world issues going on—or maybe you're just some clone messing with us all, man. Forgive me, because I guess it's the season for forgiveness.😂🤣😍

If this is all for real... head straight to your doctor to get a referral for a psychiatrist.🙂

Man, you’ve basically hyper-fixated on just ONE show—honestly, you're doing alright, maybe even great! 🤣

It's the honest truth.

Look, it isn't even about the specific show anymore. Like someone else pointed out, the series is just an escape from reality. It's living in some imaginary world, and that escape has turned into a full-blown addiction. Once the show ends, you'll just go hunting for the next one, and it goes on forever. If you run out of shows, you'll probably just swap them out for other mindless, popular distractions... we all know how that story ends.
The silver lining is that you don't need a psychiatrist. It's actually very straightforward. Just like any other addiction, the solution is abstinence. If you find it too difficult, just throw your TV in the trash. I promise you'll feel better after a few months.

You say you don't have the strength to quit? Well, listen: if you can't stop watching (whether it's this show or any other), then just go to sleep. If you can't sleep, find a way to physically exhaust yourself so you can finally drift off. It might sound like a long, grueling process, but after a week or two of staying away, your addiction will start to look ridiculous.
