Look, I’m over the gossip... seriously. Just come visit my neighborhood and you’ll see how everyone thinks they know everything about you, even if you never say a single word about your private life. It’s ridiculous. These people just make stuff up because they think they’re so damn smart, deciding they've "figured out" what's happening in your life and what you're doing, when there isn't even 1% truth to any of it. On top of that, everyone is so closed-minded—just these narrow-minded, self-important small-town types. They can sit there and talk about you for two hours straight, basically narrating your entire life story, despite having absolutely no clue who you actually are.

Melissa Barnes4 said:Wait, what are you even talking about? Did I ever actually say that everyone without a partner is jealous? No, I didn't. And besides, you're speaking from your own experience—just because you wouldn't be jealous of your brother doesn't mean it's a universal rule. I personally know a woman who is incredibly jealous of her brother, specifically regarding his success in areas where she's struggling (I won't get into the details here). Nobody is making this about you. You wouldn't be, and I certainly wouldn't, but honestly, there are people out there who really are. Plus, she mentioned she was fine with everything until he popped the question... that's why I'm being so blunt about it. Anyway, I'm not going to go back and forth with you on this.

Look, maybe she's jealous, but it could be something else too. It isn't always just jealousy, which is why I phrased it that way. Maybe she just can't stand him for some other reason. Honestly, I don't waste my energy on people like that; I just distance myself and call it a day. People like that never change. But seriously, it looks incredibly toxic for her to be jealous of her own brother. They'd probably realize she's a total freak before they realized anything else.🤷.

Yeah, it isn't normal to me either, but hey, people are weird... when I mentioned jealousy, I meant they were bitter about how well everyone else was doing, though I guess we interpreted things differently. I can't say for certain since I don't actually know these people; I'm just speculating. And as anyone knows, guessing isn't the same as knowing. Anyway, I was just sharing my take on how it looked to me.🙂

Melissa Barnes4 said:From what I can gather, she isn't married and doesn't even have a boyfriend... it sounds like she's just incredibly jealous of your relationship. Seeing you two happy clearly eats at her. It’s actually pretty pathetic when you think about it—being that resentful toward your own brother and his happiness is just tragic.

Exactly. We keep trying to explain that we should all be supporting each other and that we aren't her enemies, but nothing works. She just won't listen. That's the worst part about it. She's completely closed off.

rustymarlin322 said:Right. It feels like everyone who's single is just fueled by pure spite. You can see it in their eyes😲. But look, jealousy isn't just about romance. People get jealous of all sorts of things. Personally, I'm not the jealous type, but if I were, I'd never be jealous of my own people. Who knows what's going on in her head, but being jealous of her own brother? That's a new low. Maybe he just gets under her skin. Or maybe she thinks she isn't good enough for him. She's probably just acting overprotective.

She hasn't got a clue what she's doing. Even her own mother is baffled by her behavior. She actually thinks she's acting in her brother's best interest, completely failing to realize he's a grown man with his own mind. It's honestly pathetic. Honestly, the only thing that might help is therapy and some serious self-reflection. I even know a specialist who could help her out. But after everything malicious she's pulled on us, I can't bring myself to send her the number or suggest she goes to counseling. She'd probably listen, too. But I just can't do it. I'd feel like an idiot helping her at this point...

I think she’s just so insecure that she survives by stealing everyone else's identity. For example, she doesn't know a single thing about cars. I mentioned I’d probably get a Toyota Corolla or a Nissan Versa, and then two days later, she repeats my exact words like she came up with them herself. That’s her whole MO—taking things from her brother. Now that he's married, the poor woman is totally lost. She has no idea who she even is anymore.

Melissa Barnes4 said:I honestly don't get why people do this. Why is there such a desperate need to drag others down, gossip about their private business, or dissect everything they do? It’s like they find some weird sense of fulfillment in it, acting as if sticking their noses into everyone else's affairs somehow makes them superior or more important than they actually are. It's exhausting to watch.

In my experience, these kinds of people are just fundamentally unhappy. I truly believe that someone who is actually content with their own life wouldn't spend their energy trying to maliciously tear someone else down. If you're genuinely happy, you don't feel the need to meddle in things that have nothing to do with you.
Now, I’m not talking about those trivial comments about what someone chose to wear or other superficial nonsense.

What’s your take on all this?

p.s. I tried searching for a thread on this already, but came up empty.

Personally, I find that people of this ilk provide absolutely wonderful material for trolling and lighthearted mockery; consequently, they serve as an inexhaustible wellspring of entertainment. I quite enjoy them. 😍

🤔 I feel for you, seriously... it takes a lot of mental grit to deal with that kind of stuff. Maybe your husband—her brother—could try sitting her down for a real talk? If he can see how much she's struggling mentally, he might be able to gently suggest that seeking some professional help wouldn't be such a bad idea.🤷

Tell me about it. It's the same where I live. Everyone wants to know everything. If they don't find out the truth, they just invent their own version. It's ridiculous.

You should probably give her the number anyway, provided you're sure she'll actually show up. Maybe getting things off her chest would help. Just don't bother arguing with her; keep your distance. And whatever you do, never force your boyfriend to choose sides. She's his sister, his blood—we all know how that ends. Good luck.🙂.

My husband tried talking to her, but honestly? It’s a total wash. He just doesn't get it. I’m going to suggest she see that therapist aunt of mine, though I'll have to find the energy to actually bring it up. I'm pregnant right now, so I'm not about to stress myself out over nothing. This whole thing isn't some big revelation anymore—it's just exhausting. We've both spent a year and a half trying to fix this, and we're nowhere.
