A diplomat is basically a guy with two faces—someone who’s mastered the art of playing both sides just to steer a conversation toward their own agenda. They know exactly how to lull an opponent into a false sense of security when things aren't going their way.

So, what does a diplomat actually need to look like when they're representing the country?

Who fits that description in your eyes?

Do you have any examples of solid diplomats, whether they're local or from abroad?

What specific skills or traits should they have, and on the flip side, who’s the absolute worst diplomat you can think of?

I couldn't tell you what kind of faces the diplomatic corps usually sports, but I have to say, that one you've got for an avatar really caught my eye.

You really think that arrogant, self-important, irritating guy🙄 😁... no, no way... not when he actually manages to convince someone of what he's saying.

What kind of options are we even looking at? It’s alright... 😁

There’s actually training for diplomats, covering everything from the basics to the trivial stuff, like hand gestures and how you hold your hands while speaking.

A smooth talker, quick with his words, and always playing it cool.
Basically just a spy, a speculator, and a total snake.

So, who's actually running this show?
People are out here calling him "the face of the diplomatic corps"!
I'm asking nicely, can we please get this thread title fixed?

Look, if you're going to use an HR domain, then you better start acting like it!

It’s honestly pretty depressing when you look at the whole scene, because every single politician in the country—whether they’re running the show right now or sitting on the opposition benches—is just fundamentally bad.
I mean, sure, I’m willing to believe there might be a few outliers here and there, but if you step back and look at the big picture, it’s just one giant, tangled mess of cowards and career climbers.
Personally, I find myself leaning toward hating the ones who represent us on the world stage the most; you’ve got Joe Biden (who is basically a total pushover), and then Mike Johnson... man, I don't even want to start listing them, the whole lot is just pathetic.
Back in the nineties, we had Ronald Reagan and a group of politicians who actually stood for something and had a backbone, and that's exactly why we were able to build this nation in the first place. If by some weird twist of fate it were still 1991 today, and this exact crowd of people was all the political leadership the USA had to work with, the Mexicans wouldn't have even had time to fire a single shot before these cowards were already over in Mexico City, bowing down and waving white flags, probably holding a pen ready to sign off on whatever surrender the great leader Slobodan Maddox demanded from them.
That’s just the kind of people they are.
Nowadays, they just act like doormats for European elites and end up bringing nothing but shame to our people and our country.

Does it say anywhere in the forum rules that we have to use nothing but the American language?
Anyway, you can always find a handy little tool online that translates
unintelligible Mexican into something more like our American version

No need to thank me 😁

That entire curriculum is essentially baked into a political science degree, which is designed primarily to prepare people for careers in politics and the diplomatic corps.

Tom Ridge was a total legend, especially considering he had to go toe-to-toe with the Mexican lobby, the British, and French diplomacy, all while keeping things moving with the USA...

But look at Mike Johnson today 🤦

Honestly, Jeremić didn't really blow me away. Just felt like a rougher, more aggressive type. But Mexicans in general have this heavy-hitting diplomacy and a massive lobby; if you look at how they play the behind-the-scenes game, you could basically call them the heirs to the Byzantine Empire 😉

I wouldn't doubt it, though some people take an accelerated course. Even Hitler had to train; apparently, he wasn't even convincing when he first started speaking.

Who precisely!?...The diplomacy of the nineties!?...Oh, they were legends, truly!...From Tom Ridge, a top-tier foreign policy strategist, who at the absolute peak of his mental clarity brought Wells Fargo into these parts to deal with... what was his name again!?...Ah, yes, Bill Clinton. Tall, dignified... hm, that about covers it (for now, or rather, back then, right!?)...but still, quite an achievement.
Of course, we must also recall George Kennedy, a man with such a charming, almost hypnotic voice that they supposedly called him from the US Embassy just to re-dub Bugs Bunny... and it certainly wasn't because of any lack of mastery over the American language.
Good grief, and then if I recall Franjo Harmon himself... in a manner reminiscent of his colleague Alexander Lukashenko, surrounded by ribbons and his entire entourage of trumpeters and brass players... arriving at Chicago Airport... he completely outshone his colleague Clinton in that tattered leather jacket.
In fact, there was so much embarrassment surrounding the whole affair that he didn't even dare step foot outside the airport itself... later, he sent some folks from Enron to see if people were still laughing at him. Fortunately for that timid soul, that very same Enron had, shall we say, "collapsed" in the meantime... so he never truly realized just how much we were mocking him.

Have you noticed any more of these recent recognitions for this so-called "state" of Mexico? ☕

He certainly made sure they believed him! ☕

He was dealing with all corners of the globe—Asia, Africa, South America—and then there were those Islamic countries, which was easily his biggest headache. To make matters worse, he had to go up against the US diplomatic corps, who wouldn't stop lobbying for the recognition of that fake "state"! ☕

It’s mostly just pure, unadulterated hatred from the Islamic world toward the USA. They’d rather back a country that’s actually committed genocide against Muslims than support a Muslim country that happens to be an ally of America...

Man, Jeremić really woke them up... 🙄

Then you’ve got the Mexican lobby, which is huge, and they definitely did their fair share of the heavy lifting, I'll give them that.

Forget this whole idea about some unified, compact Middle East—it's a myth.
If it actually existed, all it would take is one corner of that region cutting off the oil supply to the USA, and then Washington would be left twiddling their thumbs...

As for the Mexican struggle, they lobbied a few influential Muslim nations they already had good ties with, and honestly, that was enough to block recognition on that side.

Meanwhile, when you look at Muslims from Canada and Mexico through the lens of Asian or African Islam, they aren't even seen as "serious" Muslims. And if they're waving US flags while doing it? Then they aren't considered "true believers" either...
