So, I’m seeing this guy. He asked me out for coffee last year, but I turned him down because I was in a relationship. We ran into each other again about a month and a half ago, he asked me out again, and now we’re hanging out twice a week. At first, it was just drinks and walks... then after a month, I was actually the one who initiated sex, and we did that a few times in a row (we weren't even going out for drinks then). Then, when he invited me to a movie or out for drinks, there was zero mention of sex. We’ve been walking around in public, hugging and kissing (his idea, by the way). That’s when I started seeing him as potential boyfriend material; I really like him and wanted to see if this could go somewhere serious. When I finally asked him what this was, he told me he enjoys my company, but he views this as a temporary thing since I’m heading off to Florida for a month soon—apparently, because of me, he thinks we should just see how things look after the summer. I told him I enjoy our time too (and I do, we have the same sense of humor and basically think alike, we laugh until it hurts), but when we aren't together, I feel pretty miserable because we only talk to schedule hangouts. His response was basically to just hit pause on everything right now. To me, it sounds like he’s just not that into it and the summer trip is just an excuse to avoid commitment. He’s already told me I’m attractive, smart, and a good person, and he’s said he loves spending time with me, but he doesn't reach out unless we're making plans, he won't commit before summer, and it feels like he's avoiding a relationship during the summer mostly for his own sake. We could have met up while I was away, but it seems I don't fit into his plans. If he were truly falling for me, I guess he would have committed before summer. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it.
What should I do? I don't want to waste my time on someone who doesn't value me or feel used, but then again, I don't want to walk away if there's a genuine chance for something beautiful. I'd be willing to put in the effort if it actually makes sense. I'm just not sure if I'm just kidding myself here. What do you guys think?

Not even close... He showed nothing but total indifference. And honestly, you should be insulted by that.

Honestly, I think you should just let him go. Like, thanks for the memories, but... no thanks. He seems great on paper or whatever, but he’s clearly not the one. If he actually valued you even half as much as you seem to value him (if I'm reading between the lines here), he wouldn't be leaving things to chance—he'd be the one checking in to see if you were headed down to Miami or hitting the beach in Malibu just so he could make sure you guys crossed paths. Stop overanalyzing his every move and how *he* feels about this, and start thinking about how *you* feel. You're stressing yourself out over a guy who basically doesn't have the guts to just say, "Hey, I want to spend the summer with you, sorry not sorry." That's just my two cents, anyway... you do you. ☕

Don't hold your breath, honey—seriously, don't expect anything from this. I’ve been down this exact road before; everything seems perfect on paper, you're looking at him as serious boyfriend material, and then—bam—you get hit with the one outcome you never saw coming. It's always that same tired script: "I just don't feel that spark, you know? I have a great time when we hang out, but I just don't see us being in a relationship." That was my life, verbatim.
Just walk away.

And don't you dare be the first one to reach out to him ever again. I mean, you guys even hooked up because you made the move...🙄 The second time, he wasn't even into it.😕 Seriously, start respecting yourself a little more.🙂

I’m not going to reach out. I think I figured out the point myself; I just wanted a second opinion. It wasn't even that he was reluctant a second time—he actually suggested going to the movies, which he never does, just because I mentioned I liked films. We did have sex, too. I only wrote that earlier because I misinterpreted things as him wanting more than just a hookup, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. It doesn't really matter anymore... it's over.

I went through a nearly identical situation, though my guy was incredibly eager about me; however, he wouldn't commit to a relationship for similar reasons because he had just ended things with someone else, and we were facing a summer where we barely saw one another for two months. It bothered me deeply, yet I kept up the texting—we spoke dozens of times a day, so it wasn't just about physical meetings—and I held onto the hope that something might blossom after the summer, which eventually did. That said, even once summer concluded, he still wasn't ready for a commitment, at which point I simply told him thanks but no thanks, and he managed to get his act together quite quickly once he realized he actually missed me. Perhaps your situation requires that same approach. I am already quite settled in my current relationship. Regardless of how this plays out, you should stop reaching out to him and let his actions reveal whether he is truly interested or not. If he does reach out, wait until the following day to respond, perhaps mentioning you were out at a party or something; essentially, act as though his sudden presence doesn't affect your life one bit.

I find it impossible to understand men who string you along like that only to suddenly decide they aren't 🤷. And it isn't even as if he just wanted something casual. In fact, mine wouldn't even sleep with me because he wasn't sure of what he wanted, so at least I knew he wasn't using me, but rather that he was just indecisive. 🤷
