Meanwhile, women spend hours over coffee with their girlfriends trying to decode what they think are cryptic signals. Like, say, him not calling the day after a date. God forbid. Or right after sex.

Or maybe he’s avoiding certain topics. Is he spiraling about his job security during this recession? Or does he just find me boring?

Or he heads straight home after hooking up instead of staying the night. Maybe he has an early meeting and doesn't want to wake me. Or maybe he just doesn't care.

"I can't get into relationships." Is that actually code for "I can't fall for you, but you're great for casual hookups"?

Or the classic: "My life is just really complicated right now, I'll reach out once things settle down." Okay, that's pretty transparent. Or is it? Because sometimes those guys in "complicated situations" work overtime to maintain contact and convince you they haven't lost interest...

So, are men actually sending mixed signals, or are we just refusing to see the obvious? Or is it truly all just a blur? Here's my latest attempt at untangling the eternal mystery of male-female misunderstandings—take it or leave it.

But they really are simple, and we are the ones complicating things by hunting for subtext!

With most men, what they say is exactly what they mean!
They don't wrap their words in layers or overthink everything, nor do they provide the level of emotional depth we tend to look for...

If he leaves without staying over, he's just being practical.
If he says he can't fall in love, then he can't...
If he says he is in a complicated situation, believe him when he says it...
and so on.

We are always searching for double meanings that, in most cases, simply aren't there!
They just don't process things or feel things the way we do.

That is why such a massive divide exists between women and men—it isn't just about physical appearance.
It's about behavior driven by hormones,
which govern our emotions, and theirs, depending on the individual...

That is my perspective.

Spot on. It’s like they're speaking two different languages—she’s looking at everything through her own lens, all kinds of subtext going on there, while he’s just stuck in his own head... they're basically ships passing in the night.

Quincy:
But how can anyone maintain quality communication with a partner when they lack self-awareness? How can they hope to understand him if they haven't even mastered themselves? How can relationships with people like that even survive? Why do so many people just end up stagnating in them?

If you spent even half as much time reflecting on your own messages as you do dissecting his, your perspective would sound entirely different.
I couldn't agree more. 👍

I hear what you're saying. And honestly, it’s a fair point—it's just that I wasn't implying this kind of "instant deep connection" thing like you thought I was based on how I phrased it. My focus was more on how so many people don't even bother trying to understand themselves or anyone else, or if they do try, they're doing it all wrong. So, my answer to your question is pretty much the same. I'm working on getting to know myself.
(I'll probably sound like a total know-it-all now because I wasn't being humble enough, but whatever, oh well.)

...you just have to realize there are people out there who will take advantage of you the second they get the chance....
...then you’ve got those types who are only decent if they feel like they’re standing on equal footing with you. If they sense someone is a little weaker or more vulnerable, they’ll squeeze every bit of profit they can out of the situation....
...but then there are the good ones. People who actually respect themselves and others simply because it’s the right way to live. They aren't looking for an opening; they would never exploit anyone, no matter how much it might benefit them....

...and honestly, whether a message is blunt or layered with subtext... it doesn't matter if it came from a man or a woman... words can be weaponized in so many ways. Ambiguous language is often used as a tool to mislead, to charm, or to pull the rug out from under you. It's a way to manipulate whether they end up helping you or using you. But even being crystal clear can be a trap—sometimes, being too direct catches people off guard because they were expecting a game of shadows instead of the truth....

but honestly, even being super blunt can be misleading sometimes. It’s because people expect things to be vague or open to interpretation, so when you’re just direct, it throws them off.

This one actually made me stop and think for a second. Thanks for that.

First off, let’s stop grouping everything under "male" or "female" traits. It doesn't work like that.
You’re the only one who can interpret what your partner is actually putting out there—don't expect anyone else to give you the answer key.

Try actually getting to know your partner first. Motivate them to open up and actually tell you how they feel.
With men, it’s a minefield because their egos are always right there in the way, so the approach has to be pretty tactical.

If you’re constantly left guessing and they *know* you're confused but they aren't doing a damn thing to fix it... yeah, bye-bye.
If they say one thing but their actions are doing something completely different... honestly, just walk away.

Men seem to possess two distinct heads, and the moment those two brains start working in tandem, they inevitably produce nothing but confusing, double-edged nonsense. 😂

Give me a break! There is zero chance they’re thinking with both simultaneously because all the blood rushes to whichever one kicks in first—and in most cases, let's be real, it's the lower one. ☕

Tell me something, when you start rambling down there, are you actually thinking about quantum physics or what? Nah. And you're a woman.

They’re certainly wealthy, considering they have two heads to work with.
It would be much more productive if the lower one actually did the thinking!😁

Personally, I’ll just use my upper head for both of us; that should be enough to make things twice as complicated as he can handle!
The messages will end up being double, triple, or even quadruple entendres—far more complex than anything he could ever dream up himself!
Truly!😁

As long as his lower half stays busy, I’m perfectly happy!

And once you finally stop overthinking things with her, too,
it’s high time for some meditation!😁

Here’s the million-dollar question: Are men actually sending these ambiguous signals, or are we women just overthinking things so much that we turn a simple "hello" into some deep, hidden subtext? 🙂
Look, if you’ve given it your absolute best shot and you still can't make heads or tails of what he's saying... then he probably doesn't know either. He's just keeping you guessing. And honestly? That kind of uncertainty is exhausting. 🙂

spot on

if you can't make sense of someone, it's because they don't know what they want either 🙄

I’ve noticed so many women making things way harder than they need to be just because they refuse to face reality—especially the younger, less experienced crowd. Honestly, my life got a million times easier once I stopped overanalyzing every little thing he said or did. In a real relationship, when a guy actually likes you, there’s zero guesswork involved. Period. I’ve been with my partner for five years now and I have NEVER had to sit there wondering, "Why hasn't he called?" or "Does he actually care about me?" or "What did he mean by that?" If I’m stuck playing detective, something is definitely wrong. When someone truly cares, they show it. You can just feel it. It’s not rocket science! Men are such wonderfully simple creatures, mostly driven by their own egos. I totally respect that. There’s really no deep philosophy to it.
