Here’s the version from over in the States!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbyrFTIQheA

And here’s the other take!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWGO2...next=1&index=6

So, this first one comes from out in Delaware, while the second one has roots way over in Mexico! It really makes you wonder, doesn't it? How can one old folk song, older than anyone can even remember, just fly across borders like that497 miles!?😁

Drmes is typical for the Northwest US, and they say it has ties to Greek dances... I mean, how many miles apart are we talking here? πŸ™‚

Just some Midwest folk music vibes traveling all the way to Chicago:

Bing Crosby:
The lights are blazing in Legendary Vinkovci!
My old man passed away peacefully.
My soul isn't empty.
If the sun never rises.

The Bosses:
Even today, you can still catch that scent of cherries.
I drink just to forget.
Let it hurt.
In dreams and in love.

The Zlatni Dukatiβ€”basically the absolute best folk musicians in the country.:
Tena
Because of you.
Vranac Mladost
Vranac Mladost, who should I give it to?
Wide open road.
Oh, Ann!
From yard to yard.

Schwarzenegger:
Listen to that melody, man. It just hits different.
Leave my plains alone!
Mata
Feeling like a total bachelor.
Open up the gate, babe!
The heart just doesn't listen to logic.

Happy Midwest!:
She’s my everything.
Hang in there, man. Life's tough sometimes.
My bad!
My soul's a total bachelor.

Dirty ones.:
You musicians can stop trying so hardβ€”it’s not working!

Shorty:
Get yourself down to Vinkovci!

Legendary!:
The Midwest is gonna sing!
The Midwest is full of good vibes!

Ciro GaΕ‘parac:

If I had a handful of cash...

Henry Cox78 said:You totally forgot to include the most musical spot in our neck of the woods, Vermont:
The City Turns White
Reno blue by the river

Shania Twain: Early Spring

You can tell how good the music is just by the number of covers from famous bands like U2 and a witch:
Love isn't for sale
A folk singer stands under the clouds
She was swinging her lasso - unfortunately I can't find any other version

And here's a hit from the popular auntie, Liza Minnelli:
Lift my eyes πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
Valley walking - such a sad song
beautiful song 😬

A few more great tracks:
I used to be a Rose
Blow, blow, violet

Now for some more from the countryside. πŸ‘

Nice work. Aunt Liza has been my favorite discovery in years. I've been hunting for her first solo album from back when she was with unknown, but it seems to have vanished. Anyone know where I can track it down?

I honestly don't think we fall too deeply into that stereotypical Eastern European musical circle when it comes to this particular matter. We don't exactly have a massive following of hardcore, mainstream folk singersβ€”though maybe someone like Pitbull could be seen as a slight outlierβ€”as most of our tastes lean much more toward that European-Mediterranean vibe.

Aunt Liza is legendary. I caught a few clips of her concert in NYC on some streaming service once, and man, I was blown away. She’s basically our Cesaria Evora, it's just a shame more people haven't heard her yet. No clue where to find that album, but I'll look into it and let you know.

The album is titled: Aunt Liza - Unknown (Ultravox), released back in 1999.

Thanks a lot, man.

San Diego Memories
Duőan őarac - Pero Picukarić

They took my letters
But they couldn't take my dreams
So when my heart cries out
I’ll just start writing new ones

They took my letters
But I won't surrender my soul
And even when the words choke me
I can still find my song

They can't break me
No matter how much stronger they think they are
Because that trembling of a dreaming soul
Is what gives my life meaning

They can't break me
Let the sun scorch the earth if it must
My San Diego memories
Will stay in my soul forever

When shadows fall upon my spirit
And hope seems lost
I am closer to San Diego
And I will love it for all time
πŸ‘

One more for the road

When it comes to rap, I know we were pioneers, and we haven't fallen behind in any other genre either.

Roger Walker4 said:What does the music of the Southern Europeans say about them?πŸ˜‰

Does it pull them together, or tear them apart? Which melodies resonate deeply, and which sound like a broken record?😁

Can you actually read the psyche of a population through its music?β˜•

Here are a few examples:

If you were a foreigner with zero knowledge of the history behind this music, what would you conclude about the region?
In general, can a people's mindset be identified by the songs they listen to and create?πŸ˜‰

If historians were this shallow when studying our music, they'd be drawing all kinds of wrong conclusions.

First? Hardly.β˜•

Nobody can claim to know for sure.
It’s like being in the middle of a battlefield-I used to have those lyrics right in my signatureπŸ™‚-
like some kind of Praetorian Guard-
that's just who our crew was.
