I really loved the series, though I felt the final season was a bit of a letdown. Personally, I think this movie is unnecessary since everything wrapped up perfectly on its own.

Fair point, but let's just wait until we actually see what happens in the plot before we decide if it sucks or not.

The series was quite engaging. I am truly curious to see how things unfold in the movie. 🙂

The movie picks up right where the series left off, so if you're a fan, you’ll already be totally in sync with the characters and the plot.

The whole thing centers on a visit from the King and Queen to Downton Abbey. It's a huge honor for both the family and the staff, but honestly, it's a total nightmare too because dealing with royalty means dealing with some seriously high-maintenance demands.

Think of this film as the definitive follow-up that wraps everything up, finally showing us what happens to the main crew and the future of Downton Abbey itself.

Maggie Smith is easily the highlight of the whole thing—especially that "I don't argue, I explain" line of hers. 😁

You're better off finishing the series first, because if you jump straight to the movie now, some stuff is gonna be super confusing.

The whole movie honestly feels like you're just watching two episodes of a series mashed together into one

Look, I’m not trying to look down on anyone who actually enjoyed this series. Really, I'm not.
I managed to power through the first season and a handful of episodes into the second before I finally threw in the towel. Why? Because the writing feels like it was specifically engineered for an audience aged 75 and up.🤔
It’s just too much—so incredibly dull and childishly simple... honestly, it feels like it was tailor-made for some nursing home crowd that’s already checked out and just needs something easy to follow while they drift off.

I followed the series quite closely and was really hoping for a bit more momentum in the movie. Instead—it felt like a soapy melodrama set in the United Kingdom during the Jazz Age (that whole jealous subplot involving the butler and the plumber was particularly much). I generally enjoy Fellowes's books, and while the series was 👍, the film didn't quite hit the mark for me.

So yeah, strictly speaking, the movie was a financial win

I watched the movie right after finishing the series and all the specials I could track down. It was such a pleasant, relaxing experience. The costumes and set design are just as stunning as they were in the show.

I read somewhere that they’re filming a sequel, though I haven't seen any concrete details regarding a release date yet. I suspect the pandemic likely pushed production back. Hopefully, we won't be waiting too long. 🙂
