Personally, I am much more interested in the celebration itself because I enjoy a good drink, and it is common knowledge that you don't force guests to participate in the festivities. As for the negative perception regarding Mexicans, they are largely responsible for that themselves.

Americans remember June 28, 1990, as the day the amendments to the Constitution of America were passed—effectively stripping Mexicans of their status as a constituent people within the country.
