I was wondering—what actually got you banned?

I’ve noticed lately that you’ve seemed pretty disillusioned and let down—it feels like you just can't find common ground with most of the crowd here, people whose posts seem designed solely to insult others while dancing around the rules to avoid getting flagged or banned.

For me, the main reason I stick around is to read what a few decent folks post—including that group you mentioned above—who (at least in my book) are totally fine, and whose sense of humor actually brightens my day sometimes.

Anyway, if you're up for it, maybe shoot me a PM with your contact info, or just keep the same handle on another forum so we can catch up occasionally.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be hanging around either; I won't be here long, or at the very least, I'll be cutting back significantly.

Everything seems to be looking up today with all this encouraging news. Though, frankly, I don't think Reddit would be quite as lucky if you actually left.

I’d love to know the real reason behind leaving the American Reddit community. You were more protected than polar bears in a sanctuary. You could insult Americans right here on an American subreddit without anyone batting an eye; you could spam, you could do whatever you wanted... you just never quite mastered the art of having a normal discussion.

Honestly, whenever I was going back and forth with zebu, I kept getting red cards—it felt more like a bar fight than an actual debate—so reading this just feels kind of pathetic. It’s like the whole part of Reddit I actually joined for is dying out, replaced by these random trolls who show up, get banned within two days, and have nothing going for them except pure, unadulterated hate. Look, everyone loses their cool sometimes—not out of malice, but just because a heated argument gets personal—but it shouldn't be constant. These new guys? They're overstepping, period.
Anyway, not to bore you, but the point is that even though I’m practically brawling with Gary Wilson nearly every single day—or whoever else, doesn't matter—it isn't fueled by pure spite or provocation. We're just people defending our own interests. But the site is slowly going down the drain. I've tried starting threads about this twice already, but clearly, it’s just falling on deaf ears.

The reason I'm considering taking a break, scaling back my activity, or just walking away entirely isn't the moderation. In fact, I want to congratulate the mods—I think they do a solid job. One of the main reasons I even signed up was because I spent months watching how well this place was run before joining.

It’s also not about the trolls that flood the site constantly, nor is it about clones like you who seem to reincarnate every few weeks. (Hopefully, you realize that once you lose credibility in a debate, you try to build it back up with a fresh handle—but it doesn't work; anyone can spot your writing style. It's the same old wine in a new bottle.)

Ultimately, the reason I'm thinking of leaving is disappointment. I'm tired of the quality of discussion from long-time members who can't post a single thing without being a troll. See, I’ve been hanging around this site for years, since like 2001 or 2002 (maybe too long, honestly, and I've never even been banned 😁). Back before this "new" version of the forum existed. From all that time spent here, I can tell you one thing—this is easily one of the best, if not *the* best, communities in the country. It's definitely one of the most tolerant spots out there. Trolls and agitators come and go, always. Discussion quality fluctuates too, depending on how many idiots are flooding the gates, but I doubt you'll find anything like what we have here anywhere else.

It feels like you’re looking at the whole site through a "politics" lens, or even worse, through the lens of that "ex-America" subforum. Yeah, that specific section has turned into a total dumpster fire lately, basically a magnet for trolls and provocateurs, but that doesn't mean it'll stay like that forever 😉. It's on the mods to clean that mess up. I'm sure they'll try to fix it if they can. 🤷

Besides, there are tons of other sections where people actually have real, intelligent conversations and stuff worth reading. I get it, though. You get burned out from reading the same empty, mindless crap every single day. I've taken breaks myself more than once (aka: avoiding the trolls), but that shouldn't be a reason to quit this place for good.

So, if this isn't your final goodbye, I'd suggest reading the first sentence of my sig and trying to live by it... trust me, it helps. 😉
