It’s not that complicated, though picking up a Ryzen 5 2600X is definitely the easier move.

The 2600X comes with the Wraith Prism cooler, which actually outperforms the Wraith Stealth, so you won't be forced to swap it out immediately. It's more than adequate and should handle the boost clocks just fine, but hey, you can always grab something beefier down the road if you feel like it.

I’d definitely go with the R5 1600X plus a cooler for that $50 setup I mentioned earlier. Honestly, the 2600X is just way too pricey right now; the price jumped from $533 to $633. You could probably grab the 1600X combo for barely $467. If I were you, I’d take those $167 and put them toward an extra 8GB of RAM instead.

Honestly, the price gap is just way too wide when you consider you're only getting a tiny percentage increase in performance. You're much better off putting that extra cash toward an additional 8GB of RAM rather.

To get R5 1600X + a decent cooler, or even just get R5 1600 (with the cooler included) for under $433, is hands down the best value you can find among all processors at today's prices.

I'm still weighing my options regarding the processor, but in the meantime, those RAM sticks > recommended have already sold out everywhere. So, I think I'll just go with these instead: Kingston 8 GB DDR4, 2666 MHz, DIMM, HyperX Fury, CL16 $206 :/

So, here's where I'm at:
Kingston 8 GB DDR4, 2666 MHz, DIMM, HyperX Fury, CL16
Asrock B450M HDV
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070Ti 8G
Either an R5 1600X or a Ryzen 5 2600X
Plus my old EVGA SuperNOVA 650 W1 power supply

What do you guys think of this setup?

It looks like they don't even have the motherboard in stock anymore $171. While you're sitting there overthinking things... 😛

You didn't mention which shop you're using either... I checked Best Buy and I don't see that RAM available there. If the retailer changes, the prices—and maybe even some of the part combinations—will change too.

Everything has shifted since we last talked; they've got the RAM at Micro Center, the CPU at Best Buy, and they probably have the motherboard at B&H, which is super convenient since everything is in stock right now.
