Got an open checking account at Chase—can I just use an ATM to deposit cash directly into my account? Thanks

Just sitting here at the Chase branch on 5th Street.
Quick dummy question for you guys—so, I've got my checking account, right? Let’s say I withdraw $333, head over to a sportsbook, and walk away with $1333. If I go to place a bet, am I going to get hit with some kind of tax? Like, am I going to end up owing the IRS anything for that?

I know I could just swing by a branch to drop this off—and honestly, since I’m living out near Chicago, that’s a bit of a trek anyway—but I was wondering if there's any way to skip the teller line and just hit an ATM instead.

So, just a heads-up for anyone running errands around town—that one ATM tucked inside the Chase branch over in the West End? It actually lets you deposit cash. Most of the other standalone machines around the city—like the ones near the waterfront, downtown, or out by the suburbs—don't have that option. Just wanted to save someone a wasted trip!

Haha, yeah, I guess San Francisco might be a bit of a trek for you 😉 Just give 1-800-365-365 a call and ask which ATMs near you actually take deposits, since most of them are just for withdrawals...

In your opinion, which bank is actually the best for shopping at ZARA?

No way. I mean, where on earth did you get $1333...

As long as you stay under $33333, you can do whatever you want. But once you start dealing with anything over $33333, you better have a paper trail for that money...

Hey. So, I went to drop a decent chunk of cash into my account yesterday, and the teller at Chase gave me this look. She basically warned me that while I can certainly deposit it, the IRS might come sniffing around later looking for trouble. She tried to push me toward opening a checking account, but I just shut that down for now until I can get some advice from you guys 😁 .

🤦

Feel free to deposit your own cash into your own checking account.

If the teller at Chase hadn't started lecturing me about taxes, I might have... but I guess since I'm still a student, she felt the need to warn me.

Honestly, she really needs to brush up on the difference between taxable income hitting a checking account and just moving your own damn money from one pocket to another. 😳

Which bank offers the best deals for opening a checking account? I’m a college student and I really need one right now because I just landed some work through my campus job placement service.

So, I was wondering—is it actually possible to open two different checking accounts over at Chase, and if I did go that route, would there be any extra fees or anything I should watch out for with the second one?
Thanks a bunch!

From what I can gather at Chase, they don't seem to charge any fees for opening or maintaining a standard checking account. I have a feeling it might be pretty much the same across most major banks—though, of course, I could be mistaken!

Thanks 🙂 I think they take it out of the Chase account $1.75 monthly, but I'm not entirely sure 🤔

I have one more question. Let's say I have a Chase checking account, and my mom has an account at Bank of America, and she wants to transfer money to my Chase account. Does she have to pay any extra fees just because I don't bank at Bank of America? 😕

Yeah, $0.67 if they’re using mobile or online banking, though it's even more if they hit up a local Chase branch

So if I were living in Chicago too, she wouldn't have to pay anything either? thanks 🙂

I want some clarity on these bank fees associated with holding a checking account. Does every bank charge a specific monthly fee, or how does this work? I’m currently with Chase $1.75, which seems reasonable enough to me... But what's the deal with the other big banks?
