So, a buddy of mine just ran into this absolute mess... He applied for his civilian service stint at a local school district, right? He gets the approval notice, but since it was all written in heavy bureaucratic jargon, he completely missed the part where they were actually assigning him to military service at a different agency... specifically, the Department of Defense. He read the line about reporting to the DoD and thought it just meant he had to check in with them, not that he was supposed to be stationed there. The kicker? He spent his entire service term at that school, and—get this—the school didn't catch the mistake either. They’re an official institution, after all. Plus, the Department of Health and Human Services sent over the paperwork saying they had a recruit ready, so they scheduled him, totally oblivious to the fact that he was assigned to the wrong place entirely. It wasn't until he showed up at the DoD to get his discharge papers that they told him he'd been serving in the wrong spot the whole time. I mean, sure, he's partly to blame for not scrutinizing the fine print, but the school is an official entity that should have caught the error, and the Department of Health and Human Services failed to flag the misdirected paperwork... Is there anything he can actually do to get this recognized? The DoD tried to work things out with the Department of Health and Human Services (since they handle civilian service), but those guys won't budge. All they offered was to move his placement, which is useless now because he's already finished the term. He did the time, but on paper, it's like it never happened...

Honestly, your friend should just reach out to Emica directly at the Department of Labor. She’s heading up that whole commission, so maybe she should be warned not to mess around. There is one person who is very, very close to filing a massive lawsuit against her and that "distinguished" commission of hers—which, let’s be real, is just a collection of four totally incompetent women. I mean, she’s already been consulting with a lawyer, and they have plenty of evidence regarding how messy and unprofessional their work has been.

So, look—your friend ought to just file a formal appeal with the Department of Labor (specifically the appeals commission). He should focus entirely on the incompetence and total inadequacy of the agency itself, rather than making it about himself or whining about how they misinterpreted the call. If he wants it done right, maybe he should just pay a lawyer $167 to draft the thing and then call it a day. And of course, he should definitely mention those ladies; after all, they are such "wonderful people." 🙏

Honestly, screw any healthy guy who’s packing heat between his legs but refuses to step up for the military... (unless they’re just holding the line because of their faith, then I guess I can respect that)

Are you dealing with any major health issues at the moment?

When it comes to those military benefits I don't have to pay for: yeah, absolutely. I'm seriously ill!

coastalorca10, what if someone actually has medical issues—specifically involving their private parts? Does the military just not give a damn about that? 🤣

It’s common knowledge that intelligent people can’t stand being told what to do through arbitrary orders that don't make any sense, unlike those with lower intellects. As for civilians, I honestly couldn't care less; I have zero desire to waste eight months of my life just because some bureaucrat decided so.

Let's leave this medieval nonsense behind and stop trying to fight wars that way. If the military were actually needed, people would step up. But let's face it, warfare is done differently these days. Though, personally, I'm against any kind of war option.

guys like you are living in the last century. thinking that "real manliness" is proven by joining the service... both active duty and the National Guard are just massive wastes of time. especially when you finish your tour and they screw you over like this. refusing to even give you credit for where you served? it's a total disaster...

So... your advice is just to file an appeal. Is there a lawyer hanging around here who can actually tell me what I should put in the paperwork? This whole system is a total disaster... you end up having to do everything yourself because nothing ever works out right. Anyway, what are the odds they actually disband the military on August 1st? That guy is losing his mind because he wasted eight months doing absolutely nothing, only to find out in the end that none of it even mattered...

It feels like they're just waiting for another war to break out, since they can't even find ways to put people to work anymore, unless it's just to use them as cannon fodder.

We have to follow every single rule to the letter here—there’s absolutely zero room for error. And yet, the phone number listed on the official Department of Social Services website is completely wrong... as if that doesn't matter. If they can't even get the basics right, I don't even want to think about how much of a mess the rest of their operations must be...

Wait, so after nine whole months, he still hasn't realized he's been stationed in the wrong spot? 😕

And then there's this individual, quite the phenomenon himself...😁

See... the first time he glanced at the invoice, he didn't bother looking again because he had to hand it over to the school office... what a clown... I guess you all are just perfect, huh? Nothing like that could ever happen to you... none of you have ever messed up enough to justify laughing at someone else...

The Department of Social Services is still sending out envelopes clearly labeled 14 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C., when their actual office is at 200 Pennsylvania Avenue. I mean, what, is the recipient supposed to just figure that out themselves? And when you actually have the nerve to ask the head of the civil service commission why they're using the wrong address, you just get some dismissive response like, "Geez, is it really that hard to find our real address? It's not like we're going to throw away a thousand envelopes." And then people like you are actually afraid of these people? Honestly, there was no point in even trying to work for them. They are completely INCOMPETENT.

Look, nobody actually ripped me off, but I swear the chairperson of the committee sent my blood pressure through the roof. At this point, I’m done. I have no intention of ever working for any government agency again—I’ve officially moved on from that life. It’s just their attitude; they act like they're gods, or some kind of supernatural beings, or Xerxes from "300" (which is a great movie 😉). Honestly, it gets under my skin. Most of this bureaucratic, parasitic machine that calls itself "the administration" is just infuriating. So, if there's any way I can help someone else get rid of them, I'm all in 😉

How long does it actually take once you submit the application for civil status...? How long until you get the final paperwork?
