You aren't even going to get a PIN out of this, considering that card doesn't have one, nor does it even support that kind of functionality anyway.

What’s the actual process for closing this account? How does one go about it?

I don't even use the service, yet they've been draining money from my $1.75 every single month for over two years now... leaving me stuck with an unnecessary $50 subscription...

Just walk into the bank and close the account.

What happens to this package if I move out of the US?

Quick emergency question here: due to a combination of sheer bad luck and my own lack of attention, it turns out my card didn't register several store payments on time (?). Because all those transactions ended up hitting my account one day late, I realized I miscalculated—and now I'm suddenly sitting at a $341 deficit, which means I've blown past my $1,000 limit. My main concern is whether I’m going to face immediate repercussions for this, or if I have enough time to sprint to the bank tomorrow morning to deposit some cash and get that balance back under $1,000? I shouldn't run into any issues before the end of the month when they actually apply interest and monthly maintenance fees, right?

It won't amount to much, but I’d suggest settling up as soon as possible to avoid those interest charges and, more importantly, to protect your standing as a reliable client with Chase.

Thanks for the lightning-fast reply! 👍 I'll be handling this first thing tomorrow morning to get my student account standing back in good graces. 😁

I have an American Express. I haven't actually used it yet, so I have a few questions if anyone feels like helping me out.
It says the limit is $667. Does that mean if I wanted to pick up a laptop from $833, I wouldn't be able to pay in installments? I highly doubt they'd let me swipe my card for $667 just so I could pay $167 in cash instead.

Yeah, you can only split up to $667 into installments. Of course, you could pay the rest in cash if the merchant is willing to play ball, but that’s entirely up to them, not American Express.

Hey there!
I could really use some advice here 🙂

Just like a few others who’ve posted about this, I got an email saying my Chase Index Plus package is being phased out soon—even though I’m still a student 😁. Now I’m trying to figure out what my best move is going forward.
Here’s what I was paying monthly:
Chase365 fee = $0.67
Monthly fee for the Chase Index Plus package = $1.75
The Chase365 service fee always took $4.75 from me, but I’d just transfer it right back into the account immediately. So, basically $2.25 every month.
What’s the deal now? Am I going to see a bigger charge just for online banking and basic account maintenance?
And can I still rely on having a $333 overdraft limit like I did before?
Regarding my American Express card, I have it lying around somewhere at home, but I never actually activated it.
Can I even activate it and start using it, and is it even worth it? What kind of perks does that card actually offer?
My checking account is active too, but looking at everything combined, I was paying roughly $2.25 per month.
Am I going to be forced to start paying those extra $4.75 that I haven't had to cover until now?
I really don't want to jump ship to another bank if I can help it. With Chase, I can find an ATM in pretty much any city, and I can handle everything through online banking in a couple of minutes...

The student package stays active until you turn 27—regardless of whether you're still enrolled or not.
Even without that specific package, using Chase Mobile will cost you roughly $2.25.
You’ll lose access to your American Express and any overdraft protection, but your account number and checking details will remain exactly the same.
Now, as for whether you need to physically visit a branch or if everything shuts off automatically—I honestly don't know. It would be best to stop by a local branch or give them a call to double-check. 🙂

Sweet!
So, if I've got this right, I'll still be paying the same total amount $2.25 every month. Honestly, I haven't even touched my American Express, and frankly, I prefer not having an overdraft option anyway—it keeps me more disciplined. 😁 My biggest priority is just making sure there aren't any hidden monthly maintenance fees 🙂
Thanks for clearing that up 😉

Actually, I believe the monthly maintenance fee is $7, and then there’s an additional $7 for using Chase Mobile, if I recall correctly. Still, in my estimation, they offer the most affordable rates available right now.

So, on December 31st—right as I was wrapping up my 27th year—everything changed! They decided to scrap the zero-balance cushion and started hitting me with monthly maintenance fees ($2.25) plus that subscription for the Chase365 perks ($4.75). Once you factor in a tiny little discount here and there, it all adds up to about $6.75.
Honestly, it’s kind of funny because I’m still rocking my student American Express card. I’m nearly 31 now and fully employed, so technically I've outgrown it—I don't even use the last name printed on the card anymore! 😬
But hey, from their perspective, as long as I’m swiping and paying my bills on time via autopay, they aren't losing any sleep over it.

Just swung by Chase yesterday. I’m looking at having to shell out $2.25 monthly maintenance fees and $2.75 for the Chase Mobile app.
Can someone please break down the actual perks of an American Express card for me? I’ve never touched one, but it seems like everyone on this forum is obsessed with them.

I'm currently digging through some forums to see exactly how long I can hold onto that credit line. Thanks for the info—it definitely helps ease the stress, especially since I'm currently overdrawn by about $400 😵.

So, if I've got this right, let's say my 27th birthday falls on June 15, 2017. Does that mean starting January 1, 2018, I stop paying that specific $1.75 fee and just move over to the standard rate, plus whatever goes with the Chase Mobile app which is free for me now?

Basically, they don't flip the switch to those higher fees the actual month I turn 27, but rather wait until the end of the calendar year in which I hit 27? 🤔

I'm asking because I haven't been a student for ages, and I actually moved away during that time—though the bank is completely clueless about it. Instead of being flagged for a non-resident account, I've somehow been sitting on a student account for several years now (which has saved me a decent amount of money on 😬 fees), so I just want to know so I can prepare myself to close it out next year. 🙏

If I don't pay off my American Express student card and they end up freezing the account, will they go after my checking or savings accounts? Basically—will my bank block those too?
