I don't actually live in that part of town—I'm from a different neighborhood in San Diego—but I’m really hoping to hold my wedding ceremony there. Does being an out-of-area resident usually cause any friction or issues with the parish?
Also, how far in advance should I be looking to lock down a wedding date?

Honestly, if you want to marry there, just go for it. One girl showed up about six months ahead of time and the priest told her she was way too late... but she had some connections, so she pulled it off. Long story short: the sooner you act, the better.

😲 😲 😲 😲 😲

Lotus, you see how things are going? Part of me actually wants to listen to you and wait until at least the eighth month. 🙂
Clearly, that’s not the smart move here...

🤷

Basically, just grab my Ford and head out to the coast 😂

Well, that really depends on which church you're looking at...
Where exactly were you planning on getting married anyway?

Yeah, honestly, that's exactly why I totally freaked out for a second there 🤷

So I was at a reception in that church recently and they were so slammed that it felt like they only give everyone like thirty minutes... basically, if you're late, you're screwed, and as soon as the ceremony ends, you gotta clear out immediately because the next wedding is already waiting outside. It felt kind of rushed and cheap to me, honestly. As for not living in San Diego, it shouldn't be a dealbreaker, you just have to go to your local parish where you're registered and ask for permission to marry at a different church. The priest will walk you through all the paperwork and whatever...

Yeah, she told me that too... they’d barely finished one service before the next group was already walking in...
Your best bet is just to figure out what to do when you leave...

Good grief.😲😲
There is certainly an interesting topic unfolding here... let me think... it seems quite a few women have been sharing their experiences regarding how priests consistently turned them away for arriving too early. Generally speaking, they seem to want everything documented within the first two or three months, but as you can see, there are plenty of exceptions to the rule. 😲😲
It is probably for the best if you don't take my word for it. 🤣🤣

To be perfectly honest, that sounds completely unappealing to me. I think I would much rather select a different venue entirely than deal with a wedding that feels like it's being rushed through on an assembly line.🙄

She did my makeup a couple of times before and she said she loved it... does anyone know how far in advance I need to book her?🤷

to Karen Cruz2:

Regarding weddings—man, those Saturdays can get absolutely slammed! Honestly, your best bet is just to give her a ring and pick her brain directly. I’d definitely try to reach out at least three weeks ahead of time, too—she’s super thorough and actually loves doing trial makeup runs first, which is such a lifesaver!

Good morning, ladies,

I was hoping you might be able to help me out with a few questions I've been pondering.
1. Has anyone heard if Jack's villa has stopped serving those delicious pear desserts?
2. Where can I find the absolute best catering? I know taste is entirely subjective, but honestly, for me, the quality of the food far outweighs how fancy the venue looks.
3. Looking at Nirs online, everything seems lovely, though I seem to recall reading some threads here a while back where a few women shared rather disappointing experiences. I can't quite recall the specifics, though—does anyone have a different perspective on them? They appeal to me quite a bit, especially since they allow for a reception before the church ceremony. Aside from there, where else in San Diego could I host something like that, and what kind of budget should I be looking at?

Thanks so much, and best regards...

1.Yeah, they aren't doing the mashed potatoes anymore.
2. How many guests are we talking about? If it's around 100, I'd say the Dioklecian venue in the suburbs or maybe Ino in the Kaštela area would work. -suburbs, ino
I'll try to think of others, or maybe the other girls can jump in.
3. One girl on the forum didn't have the best experience with them, but if I recall correctly, you might be able to host a reception at Lara's Place, though I'm not entirely sure.

I completely forgot to mention how many guests were actually on the list 🙂 somewhere between 180 and 200 people. I spent some time over at the Diocletian building earlier, and while the traditional beef stew they served was absolutely divine, that banquet hall was just far too cramped for a crowd of that size.

By the way, which hair salon did you end up using? 🤷

Sweet, could someone shoot me a DM with the contact info for that regional group or trio? Does anyone have it? 😘

Does somewhere like Orange County, maybe around San Diego or Irvine work for you? Just let me know what you're looking for, and someone here will surely pull together a list of venues for you.

1. You already got your answer.
2. ivanabl asked a good question... tell us which area you're looking at so we can suggest venues... personally, I swear by John... the food is finger-licking good... (merder will back me up :cerek.)

3. They played me. So, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone... plus, a few other ladies here ran into issues during the planning and the actual party.

I guess I'll end up being right... I just called the parish office and they basically brushed me off because they don't even have the liturgical calendar set for next year yet. 🤷
Now I'm stuck. We were planning on reserving the hall because we didn't think we could pull this off on our own, but now I have no clue... should I go ahead and book this hall or look for somewhere else?!
I'm terrified that by the time November rolls around and I call to secure the date at the church, they'll tell me they're fully booked (the priest even hinted at it—he said since there's no calendar yet, he can't guarantee anything for that day)...

Man, I am so stressed and confused right now. I have absolutely no idea what to do next. 🙄

I would personally prefer something located in or near San Diego, especially since my guests will be traveling by bus from there; I really wouldn't want them stuck on a long shuttle ride after the ceremony. We’ll likely hold the wedding at either Our Lady of Health or Holy Cross.
I caught the news about what happened to Little. I am truly relieved to hear that everything turned out alright in the end.

To be honest, I have spent so much time scrolling through this subforum that I feel like I’ve lost my sense of perspective—it's getting hard to see the forest for the trees. 🤣
