I know three women in their mid-thirties to mid-forties who have never even been married, and I honestly find their lifestyles quite appealing. What kind of people are they? Well, more or less... though it’s rare for me to find someone I truly admire in every single way. To be fair, most women seem to possess some sort of irritating quirk that, whether they are married or not, just makes them difficult for me to fully like.
If I were to tally up all the women I know whom I actually respect, and then split them into groups of those who are married versus those who have remained single: the married ones would be leading the count at about 3 to 1.

See? It seems we are in complete agreement on this matter!

The whole concept of the "frustrated old maid" is pretty much dead. It's gone, mostly because the term "spinster" used to refer to women who had never even been with a man. In today’s world, where it's perfectly normal for single women to be sexually active, we probably need a different label for those older, bitter women who have had plenty of lovers but no children—perhaps after quite a few abortions—and yet somehow never actually married. I suppose a modern term for them might be "the social climber," since they often spent their lives as mistresses to married men. Back in the day, you’d see this pattern among certain political circles; usually, they were the waitresses, actresses, or secretaries. Since they don't have anyone waiting at home to argue with, they find their escape out on the town. As for the women in their mid-30s or early 40s who aren't married yet, I guess they still have a chance, provided they move past that habit of chasing married men. Though, it is quite trendy now to marry someone ten years younger. You see it all the time—a classic Madonna and her Richie, where he's easily twelve years her junior.

Twelve? That seems like a massive stretch!😕
