Give me a break with this "absolute truth" nonsense. If I already knew exactly what I was looking for, I wouldn't be looking at all. What's the point of the philosophy then? Seriously, if anyone actually stumbles upon the ultimate answer, let me know. There’s a reward involved—and a premium set of steak knives.

What use is philosophy here??

It simply is what it is.😁

You can invent reasons for it until you're blue in the face, but it won't change the facts.😁

When I’m drifting off, I often find myself 🙂 🙂

Look, we can pretty much assume your consciousness doesn't just vanish; it’s just that it isn't perceiving anything, so nothing feels clear.
If you could manage to stay more alert during that initial drift into sleep, you might actually realize you can remain conscious while you're out.
But then you gotta ask yourself: who’s actually awake and who’s sleeping, right? So, here's the drill—as you're sinking into sleep, try to visualize somewhere you know like the back of your hand as clearly as possible. Use every single sense to build that place in your mind. At the same time, try to stay aware for as long as you can. Give it about thirty days, and you should start seeing some real results.

If you could manage to maintain some level of awareness during that initial descent into sleep, you might actually discover that consciousness can persist even while you're out cold.
But then we hit the philosophical wall: who exactly is the one awake, and who is the one sleeping? It's a bit of a paradox, isn't it? Try this: as you start to drift off, attempt to visualize a familiar location—say, your childhood home in Chicago—with as much detail as possible. Engage every sense. Use all of them. Simultaneously, try to stay conscious for as long as you possibly can. After about thirty days of this discipline, you should start seeing the first signs of progress.

What kind of results are we talking about here?🙄

So I'm supposed to stay wide awake while I'm trying to sleep? Are you kidding me right now? What kind of side effects are we even talking about here? Like, am I just going to deal with total insomnia? 🙂

Wait, does that actually work?

Perhaps you aren't actually yourself anymore. 😉 Theory suggests that during teleportation, a duplicate of the person being "moved" is actually created. The original individual would vanish forever, replaced by a copy that believes it is the original because it is identical in every way. It is also possible—a theory I have been quite fond of lately 😛—that the Marilyn Monroe who fell asleep last night vanished, and this morning, a new person emerged who simply thinks she is Marilyn Monroe. 🙂

Nymph said:Maybe you aren't even you anymore. 😉 There’s this theory out there suggesting that during teleportation, you're actually just creating a perfect duplicate of the person being "moved." The original person would basically vanish forever, replaced by a copy that genuinely believes they were the one who was teleported because, well, they're identical. It's also possible—this is a theory I've been kind of obsessed with lately 😛—that the Nymph who went to sleep last night actually vanished, and when morning came, a new version was created, someone who just happens to think they're Nymph. 🙂

Well, nobody actually knows how teleportation works. And I guess you wouldn't know until you actually tried it.

You've slept before and you know it's still you—your memories, your consciousness... everything.

Jonathan Brown6 said:As for teleportation, there's no way to be sure. You wouldn't truly know until you actually tried it.

Even then, you wouldn't be certain. You might believe you're the same person, but according to theory, you effectively wouldn't be.

You've experienced sleeping, and you know it's you—your memories, your consciousness...

That doesn't prove anything. It is possible that you are simply reconstructed along with all your memories. For all we know, you may not have even existed before this "morning." 😉 These are merely theories, of course, but they certainly provide interesting food for thought. 🙂

But honestly, you don't even know if your consciousness would actually make it back during teleportation... You might just end up dead.

And how exactly do "lucid dreams" fit into this discussion?? I've been struggling with them lately, so my main focus right now is 🙂

We started from the assumption that teleportation works exactly like it does in the movies.😉>

Am I actually alive while I'm asleep?

That’s a pretty poetic way to put it. Meanwhile, some people are absolutely terrified of dying.

Zzzzz... looks like it's time to check out for the night.
👍

As for that bit about philosophizing on page one—it’s not exactly groundbreaking. Philosophy is just thinking, right? So you're pretty much guaranteed to spend your entire life philosophizing in one way or another.

Unless, of course, you're... dead.
