First Communion gift ideas?

Just put a little cotton sundress with straps on her—something short, just so she has a base layer since those church dresses can be a bit see-through

and honestly, those dresses are pure polyester and they are just awful...👎

I have no idea what kind of dresses they use at the church (what's actually best? Last year she was singing in the choir during the First Communion service, but I didn't bother checking the fabric quality then😵).
To be fair, looking at photos online, they don't look like pure polyester, but they definitely look stifling. The issue is she already sweats like crazy regardless.

Putting any kind of extra layer under that dress sounds like literal torture for her. Could she just wear a camisole and... I have no clue about footwear. She can't stand tights; they give her a rash every single time. Jesus, I'm losing my mind.

Well, a spaghetti strap dress is basically just a slightly longer version of a camisole...🤷

Right, Capri leggings actually crossed my mind. Pair them with white shoes—no socks, obviously, because once she gets a tan, it’ll look sharp. I'll hunt for some thin ones. As for a tunic... if I can find anything decent. Honestly, though? I'm still leaning toward just a simple white undershirt. Is that even an option?

I’d say yeah, why not? If the dress goes all the way to the floor, maybe some thin ankle socks so her feet don't get shredded?

I haven't stepped foot in H&M in ages. Ever since my little one outgrew their kids' section—because let's face it, the young adult department is a minefield if you actually want 100% cotton—it hasn't been my go-to. But hey, maybe worth a quick glance. Thanks!

And those ankle socks? We'll give them a shot. Regardless of how it plays out, I'm bracing both myself and her for the heat of the kitchen. Fingers crossed we pull through. 😁

If you aren't handing them back immediately after the ceremony, there isn't much to overthink—just an undershirt and underwear.

Definitely go with the socks, or just have some Band-Aids ready to go

My goddaughter was wearing those ballet flats with the elastic straps over the instep, and unfortunately, they gave her quite a nasty rub 😢

If there's going to be a strap, it really should be a buckle one so you can actually loosen it up a bit

We had our First Communion ceremony last year in May; the weather was pleasant, but not scorching—though April and May in the States can be incredibly deceptive. <My little guy wore a button-down shirt and pants under his outfit. You won't really know what to layer underneath until a few days before when you finally see a reliable forecast.>> 😉.

If you ask me, putting that money into a savings account is the way to go; at least then, one day down the road, they’ll actually have something to show for it.

I was thinking about picking up a gift—he's absolutely obsessed with robots (though he already has a children's Bible)... and then there's the cash question. Honestly, I'm a bit stumped on how much people usually give for a First Communion. We aren't family or godparents or anything like that, just good friends. What's the standard etiquette for gifts at these kinds of events?

We’ll chip in $133. There are four of us, and we’re thinking about covering the restaurant bill and leaving some extra for the kid—even if it all goes straight to them anyway.

It’s basically like a tiny wedding. 🤦 Just an absolute waste of money.
I’m not aiming this at any one person—just making a general observation about the whole situation.
Honestly, the gifts and all those religious sacraments... they just don't sit right with me.
The whole big party thing too. A nice lunch for the family and the godparents, and then call it a day.

I'm totally with you on that.
But since we're invited, what's the move? Showing up empty-handed feels awkward to me. Plus, I want our kid to have something to save and look forward to, even if neither the godparents nor the rest of the family are actually close to them.
