Every time I plug my 1TB Seagate Expansion into Windows 7, it asks me to format it, then throws a "data error" and a "cyclic redundancy check" at me.
The icon shows up in My computer, but it just says "local disk."
The drive itself seems fine—I can hear it spinning, the light is on, and I know the cable works.

I tried running Recuva, but it couldn't find anything.

What’s the move here? I've got a ton of important data on there.

Go ahead and download this tool https://osdn.net/projects/crystaldis...Info7_6_0.exe/ once you've got it installed, just plug your external drive into a USB port—it’ll let you see exactly what kind of shape that portable HDD is actually in.

You didn't scroll down far enough, man. We need to see the whole report.
...and what about that Disk Management screenshot? ...let's see what the current format is on there... exFAT, NTFS, whatever.

I ran one of the official WD diagnostic tools and it flagged the drive as unformatted. It’s not even exFAT or NTFS.

Yeah, even if you go through with a standard format, those files are still going to be wiped out. Honestly, though—if I were in your shoes—I’d try booting up from a USB stick using a Unix Live Mint environment just to see if I could get into the hard drive. If that doesn't work, well... I guess there's not much else to be done.
