No, seriously—how do you actually escape?

I’m just done overthinking everything. It’s exhausting. And I’m planning on staying sober.

Honestly, laziness is my best friend at this point—I don't think I could give it up if I tried. Just please, don't tell me to become a workaholic. I’m exhausted...

The internet is just another way to run away, I guess. But how do you escape the need to escape?

Laziness is my best friend right now; I’m not giving it up. Please don't tell me to become a workaholic. I just want to sleep...

The internet is just a form of escapism. But how do you escape the need to escape?

I think the method you’re looking for is called facing reality.
Then comes action. And if that doesn't work... well, pull the trigger. 🙂

Honestly, laziness is my best friend at this point; I'm not ready to give that up just yet. Please, don't go telling me I need to become a workaholic. I'm exhausted...

The internet feels like its own kind of escape. But how do you escape the actual urge to run away?

Well... stop running? 🙂

A bullet to the head is a bit too permanent of a solution for my taste—personally, I'd suggest a hammer to the toe. That’ll bring reality back to you real quick. 😈

A bullet to the head is a bit too final for my taste. I'd rather go with a hammer to the pinky toe. That’ll bring you back to reality fast enough. 😈

Honestly, a bullet hurts less than a hammer to the pinky. 😳

Just take the hit to the yellow, and things will get a lot easier... way easier.

Exactly. Like those characters in Trainspotting—everyone else was dealing with thousands of different issues, while they only had one: how to score the next fix.

👍 but honestly, screw them...

coastalorca3, just hit both walls two or three times and you'll be fine.

I’m just done overthinking everything lately. It’s exhausting. Plus, I’m planning on staying sober.

Honestly, laziness is my best friend right now; I’m not ready to give that up. Please don't tell me I need to become a workaholic. I’m just so sleepy...

I don't know why, but I get this feeling that previous generations were somehow obsessed with finding their "lost identity," whereas we... we just want to escape somewhere (maybe even from ourselves). We want to lose that sense of "self" and just melt into the background, ideally in massive, multicultural, melting-pot cities or states. Or am I totally off base?

The internet is just one big distraction. But how do you escape the urge to run...

I know a guy who, while whining about this exact thing, once muttered:
"Wherever I go, there I am." 😎

Ugh. That sounds heavy...

Honestly, maybe it’s not such a bad idea to just go out and forge a whole new identity for yourself... 😎 I mean, seriously!

I’m just done overthinking everything. It’s exhausting. And I fully intend to stay sober.

Honestly, laziness is my best friend right now, and I’m not ready to give that up. Don't even try to tell me to become some workaholic. I'm exhausted...

The internet is basically just one giant escape hatch. But how do you escape the constant urge to run away in the first place?

You have to face whatever is driving you to run...
That’s how you deal with the urge to escape.

But let’s be real: courage is just discipline that people forgot how to use out in the real world... which is why 90% of the people in this group are looking for it...
I know, because I get burned by that exact same logic all the time.

I didn't come up with this profound bit of wisdom myself, I'm just passing it along:

It goes something like this: we're all basically actors on the stage of life, right? And because of that, our lives start to take shape based on whatever role we decide to play... if you choose to step into a different character, change how you view yourself, and shift your whole perspective, the world is going to react to you differently and perceive you in a whole new way...🙄

Well, if it isn't alcohol, then it's drugs 😵
I wouldn't spend a dime on drugs—never—because, frankly, screw temporary highs. I prefer a healthy lifestyle.

My identity is basically built on the fact that I was born, I am alive, I have to actually do things with my life, and eventually, I'll die. 🙄 Just the unchangeable facts, I guess. 🙂

Oh, by the way, I'm in Kissimmee right now and just noticed there's an exhibition by Dvina Meler on the wall. And then, when I went to sit back down, I accidentally kicked my computer onto the floor. 😛

A bit too much truth to face at once 😁

I could spend three hours whining about how the world is a dark, miserable dumpster fire, and how much better it would be to just retreat into some movie, fake a positive attitude, and wander around with a forced, mile-wide grin. I could, but I won't. I’ve spent half my life at war with society, political dogma, American Middle East policy, media brainwashing, cultural decay, the absolute trash heaps of Hollywood cinema, the neighbor who can't finish a simple DIY project because he’s too busy being incompetent, or the kid from upstairs who broke my nose years ago. I’ve wasted half my life bitching about all of them, feeding my cynicism, and burning through massive amounts of energy being angry. And what did it get me? Nothing. You stay mad, and they don't give a damn. So why bother?
