People keep bringing up this term lately. First it was IQ, then back in the mid-nineties we had EQ—emotional intelligence—and now everyone is claiming that SQ, or spiritual intelligence, is the actual foundation for both.

Basically, you start developing it by asking the big ones: who am I, why am I here, and what’s the point of any of this? Once you start digging into those questions, you're working on your SQ and your own awakening. It involves concepts like a universal love for all living things, an understanding of Bog that goes way beyond organized religion, and finally losing that deep-seated fear of death society drilled into us.

So, what's your take? Are you seeing any signs of spiritual intelligence popping up in yourself?

The issue arises when people attach the noun "intelligence" to all these various coefficients... which is fundamentally flawed. It creates a massive misconception.
IQ - Intelligence Quotient
EQ - Emotional Quotient
SQ - Spiritual Quotient

Terms like "emotional intelligence" or "spiritual intelligence" are quite clunky. They aren't truly "intelligence" in the traditional sense; rather, they function similarly to our mathematical and logical reasoning (IQ) in that they vary significantly from one individual to the next...

As for your question regarding whether I am "sensing traces" of spiritual intelligence within myself—that strikes me as an odd inquiry. It is akin to asking if I am sensing some sort of emotion, or if I am merely a stone incapable of feeling anything at all.
You defined spiritual intelligence yourself (what a ridiculous term, frankly) as our capacity to grapple with questions like: Who am I? Why am I here? What is the point of it all? Someone who has never once paused to ask those questions isn't going to suddenly start "sensing" them just because you mention the concept of SQ.
While the framework of SQ is interesting, it seems even more difficult for the average person to grasp than EQ. However, SQ isn't strictly reserved for religious individuals... atheists possess it too, perhaps even more profoundly than many believers. It is quite simply the ability to find meaning in one's life... from a spiritual perspective... regarding the nature of existence itself.
At least, that is my own take on it.

Orion said:You can't go anywhere lately without hearing this term pop up. It follows the massive hype around IQ, and then the mid-nineties craze over EQ (emotional intelligence). Now, people are claiming that both of those actually stem from one core source—SQ, or spiritual intelligence.

What’s your take? Do you feel any traces of that kind of spiritual intelligence living inside you?

😉

True intelligence might just be spiritual intelligence at its heart.
If you look at it mathematically, it would look like IQ + EQ = SQ, assuming that IQ and EQ actually work in inverse proportion to one another... 😉

It’s about time we admitted that IQ and EQ are basically inverse to each other... 😉

Since when? 😁
I’d actually argue they go hand in hand... 😉

I’m guessing you meant IQ and EQ, which actually makes a lot more sense in this context... 😁

...your question about whether I sense traces of spirituality within myself is weird. It's like asking if I feel any emotions or if I'm just a rock without them.
You claim spiritual intelligence—what a ridiculous term, by the way—is our ability to handle questions like who am I, why am I here, and what's the point? Well, someone who hasn't asked those things before isn't going to suddenly start "sensing" them just because you mention Quote : Orion.

Everyone asks those questions eventually.

The real question is how much anyone actually bothers to deal with them later in life.😉

I’ve always had a bit of a bone to pick with the term "spiritual intelligence"—it just feels so clunky to me. But if you look at the different types of metacognition—which used to be categorized as seven or nine types, though some modern theories suggest even more—you have things like intrapersonal and interpersonal metacognition. I suppose you could frame that first one as being part of spirituality, though personally, I think it covers so much more ground than that...

🙏 🙏 🙏 attempt no. 2:

If I were to draw a parallel between how we "consume" poetry and these three distinct types of intelligence, here is how I’d break it down:

IQ = knowing your vocabulary and having the mental capacity to distinguish between different terms and grasp their underlying concepts.

EQ = an appreciation for the sheer beauty of word choice, the ability to sniff out deeper metaphors, and a genuine awareness of the poet's perspective.

SQ = falling head over heels for the poet themselves.

EQ = Keeping your eyes peeled while you read. 😁

SQ = Delta Air Lines = Finally grasping what actually drove a poet to put those specific words on the page... 😉

You claim spiritual intelligence (what a stupid term) is our ability to handle questions like: who am I, why am I here, and what's the point? Someone who has never asked those things isn't suddenly going to start "feeling" them just because you mention Quote : Orion....

By "feeling," I meant how much you actually engage with those questions 🙂. Though, I guess I found the perfect place to ask that—under "spirituality" 😁.
Second, everyone asks these things occasionally, especially during hard times, but the real question is how much work people actually put into finding answers. You won't find them easily, obviously, but the pursuit itself is what defines this type of intelligence.

The concept of SQ is interesting, but it seems even harder to grasp than EQ... maybe... and it's not just for religious people... atheists have it too, perhaps even more developed than many believers. It's simply the ability to find meaning in one's life... from a spiritual perspective... regarding existence itself...

Of course it isn't tied to religious people
they usually show lower IQ scores😁 🙂
because they prefer taking the path of least resistance by accepting whatever dogmas a religious system throws at them rather than investigating for themselves
plus, for most of them, faith is just based on fear
fear of punishment, or hell
though it seems to me the biggest fear is actually being an outcast
which explains why they can't stand anyone being different

but that's a whole other topic... 👋

Since we're in the "spirituality" subforum, I'm not expecting an onslaught from the local, ever-vigilant religious fanatics🙄

The data shows they tend to have lower IQ scores.😁 🙂
They’d much rather take the path of least resistance and just swallow whatever dogma some religious system throws at them instead of actually doing their own research.
Besides, for most of them, faith is really just built on fear.
Fear of punishment, hell...

A man lacking any sense of spirituality isn't really a man at all—he's just an animal (with all due respect to certain uniquely human-dolphin species)😁

magic_tree: A person without spiritual depth isn't truly whole.

Such a brilliant point!

Basically, nobody has ever categorized people this way before:
1. THE NATURALLY GIFTED - those born with innate brilliance, perhaps because their souls have undergone many lifetimes.
2. THE EDUCATED - highly trained professionals, which doesn't necessarily mean they were born smart; their souls might have only experienced a few incarnations.
3. THE ELITE INTELLECTUALS - the perfect mix of natural genius and formal education; souls that have traveled through many lives and completed advanced degrees.

Then there’s the other side:
1. THE NATURALLY UNREFINED - people who lack basic intuition, perhaps struggling with heavy karma or souls that are relatively new to this world.
2. THE UNSKILLED - those lacking formal training or literacy, though they might still possess natural wit.
3. THE TOTAL LOSSES - complete idiots who lack both natural sense and any schooling; souls that are essentially on their first or second trip around the sun.
