Nicholas Gomez5 said:I’m not sure when you started your business, but I think the new laws kicked in this year. I’ve opened several companies recently around Chicago and the surrounding areas, dealing with various tax offices, and everywhere I went, they required a Lease Contract.

"Once you're entered into the court registry and the U.S. Census Bureau, you need to register the company with the IRS office that has jurisdiction over your headquarters to get set up for corporate income tax and sales tax. You'll typically need to present the court registration, the classification notice, and the signature card.

After registering your company through the Commercial Court, if you intend to jump straight into hospitality, retail, tourism, or transportation, you have to obtain a decision on fulfillment of minimum technical and other conditions for conducting economic activity from the relevant local authorities."

Nobody ever asked me for a lease agreement; they only wanted exactly what's listed right there. The only difference was that we didn't opt into the sales tax system.

Beyond what you already mentioned, they were asking me for an additional three to five standardized forms based on specific locations. I actually asked them, "Wait, why do I need different paperwork for every single site?" and they just told me that every local administration sets its own rules. To make matters worse, they wouldn't even look at my documents without a formal lease agreement in place. They are obsessed with hitting the landlord with income tax if it’s an individual. Even if you claim the lease is for zero dollars, they’ll just calculate the tax based on whatever the standard market rate is for that specific area. You can verify that yourself with the Trešnjevka Police Department, Susedgrad, or Samobor.

I didn't get an answer from you—when and at which Police Department did you submit your founding documents?

I'm just a girl 😉

The company was founded back in November 2008 by the Pazin Police Department.

That's just how it is—the new beverage tax law has been in effect since 2009. My bad on the gender mix-up!

Here are the changes—so if you happen to have a link handy to back up what you're saying, please do send it over...

I gave you an answer based on real-world experience, so I'm not sure which part you didn't get?

Look, if you actually want to be taken seriously, you need to provide a link to back up that claim—get it? 😉

Maybe you didn't read all my posts carefully enough. I mentioned in one of them that you can verify this data directly with the IRS, and in another, I even noted exactly where I received my own instructions.

Sure, you can just call them! And since you seem so tech-savvy, I'm sure you're resourceful enough to find their phone numbers on your own. 😉

Dear Nicholas Gomez5😍,

I read your posts with utmost attention—reading between the lines, actually—much like I would any other deeply fascinating author...😁

I was hoping that you might also dabble in these "advanced technologies" and perhaps locate an actual legal act, a regulation, or something similar... because what some clerk at the local police department tells you over the phone might be true, or it might not—it really just depends on the moment and whatever mood the person on the other end happens to be in. Don't you see that we're essentially in the same boat here? We have different answers based purely on experience, since my response to you was drawn from my own history...

I don't know, perhaps you are far more experienced than I am😛, or maybe it's the other way around😉, but I hope we can eventually reach a better, broader, shared understanding for the benefit of everyone reading this...

Still, it's probably better to provide information rooted in actual law rather than relying on some lady on the phone, because... believe me... I know from experience... I get along quite well with those types, so something might be true, or it might not necessarily be...😁

The way you communicate just feels disrespectful. Honestly, I don't do that kind of talk. I have nothing left to add since I've already laid out all the facts, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion—including you, dear.

Dear Mos,
Since I’ve been hanging around this forum for a while now, I’ve taken the liberty of developing my own little way of doing things—you know, mixing in some sarcasm even when the topics get heavy, mostly just to push everyone toward actually writing something worth reading. You really shouldn't have taken it to heart... maybe work on that sense of humor a bit? I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, truly. Besides, you can't take everything so personally—especially not on an internet forum. Coffee's on me next time.

OT: Just a bit of advice for everyone else: if you're going to dish out advice, try providing a link to a reliable source whenever possible. Personal anecdotes and opinions vary wildly from person to person, and relying on them can easily mislead someone who isn't well-informed. There's a massive difference between sharing what happened to you and citing actual law.

Honestly, Dante, you’ve got a point there. There’s really no sense in getting worked up about it. No matter how much experience we think we have under our belts, there’s always something new to pick up from what others are doing. It doesn't matter if someone's been on the job for two years or twenty—you never actually stop learning.🙂

Is it legally permissible for a single individual to serve as a director for two separate companies—assuming they are also the founder of one of them and officially registered there?

Question: My boyfriend (my 😁) is setting up an LLC, and I want to be his biggest supporter—but there’s a catch. The apartment is currently solely in my name. If I gift him half ownership (making it a joint property), could he technically rent out "his" portion to his own company without it being flagged as rental income for me? I'm trying to avoid having to report it on my tax returns. We’re actually counting on a specific tax credit related to our mortgage, and I’m terrified that adding this rental income to my profile might shrink or completely wipe out that refund. Any advice? 🙂

Given the absolute circus currently happening in the American economy 🙂, we’re putting our entrepreneurship plans on ice for a while. After bouncing around for weeks, today was the final straw. If anyone actually has an answer to the question above, I'd appreciate some advice—it might come in handy down the road when things finally stabilize 🙂

I'm trying to figure out what all the actual costs are when you're setting up an LLC.
Like, I know about the standard stuff—notary fees, registering with the Census Bureau, the initial capital requirements—but I've heard whispers about these random, hidden expenses that aren't listed anywhere. The kind of things you only find out about once the business is already live and you're staring at a bill you didn't see coming. 😕
Also, just curious... can a company operate without any employees if the director is actually employed somewhere else and happens to be out on medical leave right now?

I can't say I know much about these fringe expenses 😉

But here’s the real question... How on earth can someone claim they’re too sick to perform their actual job, yet somehow find the energy to volunteer their time at the very same company?

It feels like a classic loophole—something people have been trying to exploit for years to double-dip on income through less than legal means...
