Daniel Bailey39 said:I’m assuming this app is still in its early stages—maybe just launched or only been live for a few months. Every new system hits those inevitable growing pains at first. It's pretty standard for users to stumble upon bugs, which actually gives us a chance to flag them and alert whoever is in charge before things get messy.

You’re following that classic pattern where people start screaming the second they hit a snag. Instead of actually reaching out to an industry expert or someone who knows the ropes, everyone just goes rogue and tries to tackle it solo.🙂

Honestly, the whole "it's impossible to fix mistakes" argument is such a joke. We're talking about an app here. It’s a tool. You use it when it suits you, and more importantly, you have the ability to double-check, triple-check, or even quadruple-check your forms before you actually hit send. It's not exactly rocket science.🥱

The app has been live since July, and just so we're clear: once you hit send on that data, there’s no going back. It's locked in.
If you mess up a single character—say, you input an uppercase "P" when it should have been a lowercase "p"—you’re basically stuck. There isn't a quick fix or a "delete" button for that kind of mistake. You'll actually have to call out a technician and beg them to come over and manually reconfigure the settings on the point-of-sale terminal. It's one of those small errors that turns into a massive headache.

My whole point is that we’re just piling up unnecessary red tape. It used to be that the digital cash register would automatically feed all the necessary data straight into the IRS systems, but now, they've added a middleman to handle the manual entry. What's the logic there?

What do you think is driving my constant venting?

I haven't actually messed up yet, so I can't really speak to having issues on that front. 😉

But things are finally starting to move. There's actual movement, discussions happening, negotiations underway... so maybe we'll actually see some change for once.
Shout out to the whole crew working behind the scenes on this one 👋

And once this chapter closes, we’ll need to kick off the next one and force the IRS and the Treasury Department to finally join us in the 21st century.

👋

Yeah, the wheels are slowly turning.
The more people get involved in fixing this mess, the better our chances of seeing real progress—which is exactly what we're aiming for.

John Smith said:Every massive fine is actually backed by a mountain of caught violations and shady dealings. It’s way easier to just scream about the IRS punishing people over "a few extra bucks in the register" or some "typo in a filing."

It’s not quite as simple as they want you to believe.

That’s just flat-out wrong. I mean, maybe that holds water for certain industries—not that I'm naming names—but for most businesses out there, it’s absolutely not true.
The real shady stuff happens in cash-heavy businesses.
But honestly? There’s a whole crowd of entrepreneurs who don't even touch cash, yet they still get slapped with fines for every little mistake.

The IRS should be focusing on whether taxes, social security, and other duties are actually being calculated correctly. They shouldn't be handing out penalties because someone used a capital letter instead of a lowercase one on a business address code.
If the revenue is reported and the tax is paid... why the hell are we penalizing people for a typo? Who is actually getting screwed in this ridiculous scenario?

And what kind of average small business owner is supposed to know the specific legal definition of "a direct blood relative, or a collateral relative up to the fourth degree by marriage, regardless of whether the marriage has ended"? Because apparently, that’s a "critical" data point for an IPO form. What, is my accountant supposed to go around collecting everyone's birth certificates and marriage licenses just to figure out who's related to whom through their in-laws?

And mark my words, someone is definitely going to get fined for it!

total lack of logic🤦

Can you recall an email after you've hit send? Of course not. But you double-check everything before you click, and as far as I'm concerned, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that level of diligence.🕺

If things were more efficient before, why don't those who care actually band together and alert the people in charge?🤔

People *are* getting together. They’re working on it. And honestly, thanks for doing that.

But until this gets sorted out... we have to keep pointing out the absolute absurdity of our regulations, the sheer lack of logic, the inconsistencies... all those headaches that only show up once you actually try to do business. The people writing these rules are nothing but ivory tower theorists who wouldn't know real-world practice if it hit them in the face.

And then they turn around and sell it to everyone as "complying with EU directives." Yeah, right. Like that's ever happening. They "comply" just enough to make everything as complicated as humanly possible.

Just talk to anyone who moved their headquarters to another EU country, and you'll see pretty quickly that our local guys aren't following any standard at all. They're just creating red tape and inventing busywork for themselves.

Oh, and one more thing... you can fix a filed sales tax return, you can fix a submitted payroll report, you can fix your filings with the State Employment Agency, you can even fix a VAT statement...

So why on earth can't we just correct the business premises designation?

What’s even the point of hanging out on forums, Facebook, or any of those social media sites if you aren't actually interested? You have to show up, read the posts, and stay in the loop.
And for heaven's sake, actually chime in! Stop lurking in the shadows like some ghost and pretending you don't have an opinion.

Look, when the government puts out some new regulation for public consultation... please, people... take the chance. Read it, look it over, and speak your mind. The more feedback we pile on, the more real-world examples we throw at them, the better our shot at actually making things change.

Furthermore, I don't see the point in stirring up unnecessary confusion. If there is already a specific group handling this matter within the appropriate Department of the Treasury agency, then these kinds of threads—or anything remotely similar—really serve no purpose here.🥱

It seems clear that I simply don't grasp how this whole system operates. From what I understand, once a form is sent—even if it’s only been a minute since they received it—you aren't supposed to be able to pull it back and edit it. You might be able to submit a new version along with some sort of explanation, but how do they actually decide which version becomes the official record?🤔
In my mind, the process is quite straightforward: fill it out, send it, and it gets received. What else is there to it?🤔

Look, if you accidentally submit the wrong form—say, for the October 2017 period—and realize your mistake, you just send over a corrected version for that same timeframe. The system just swallows the new one and calls it a day.
I’m guessing the clerk at the Department of the Treasury has to click a button or something on their end, but they just do it and move on. No biggie, no fines, no drama whatsoever...

Usually, I’ll give the agent a quick ring first just to touch base, but honestly, it’s not even required.
Plus, there’s actually a field where you can type in why you’re making the correction in the first place.
The system basically just overwrites the old filing with the new data.
This happens to me a few times a year, and it’s always smooth sailing. Zero issues, zero penalties... no headaches at all. Every once in a blue moon (and I mean *very* rarely), the agent might ask me to email over a scanned copy of the supporting document. I send it over, we exchange pleasantries, and that’s that. Absolutely no trouble.

Well, if that's how it works, how on earth do they prevent people from cutting corners or playing fast and loose with the numbers?🤔

The whole thing seems a bit loosely regulated to me. I can't help but feel that in the USA, where shady dealings often seem more like the rule than the exception, this would be a massive loophole.

Posting on a forum doesn't really change anything.🥱
To each their own, I guess...

We're actively pushing for changes, and honestly, these forums do have a purpose—it’s how we stay informed and get more people involved.

Furthermore, I don't see the point in stirring up unnecessary confusion. If there is already a specific group handling this matter within the appropriate Department of the Treasury agency, then these kinds of threads—or anything remotely similar—really serve no purpose here.🥱

total lack of logic🤦

Are you actually looking to change something—or are you just here to talk shop? 😁😁

Part two of this saga. It might be worth reading for anyone interested to see that we’re actually taking action here—this isn't just some isolated case of slapping massive fines on people for trivialities.
When do they actually go after serious offenses or blatant tax evasion? Not anytime soon. 🤣

OPEN LETTER TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
Over the last few weeks, entrepreneurs have been hitting us up daily with stories about astronomical fines handed out during fiscal audits, all because of a typo in their business space designation.
We're talking penalties ranging from $2.75 up to as much as $12!
The issue is something like a register marking a space as "P1" while the filing with the Police Department says "p1"—it's a matter of a capital letter versus a lowercase one, or maybe "P1" instead of "P01."
In our view, these kinds of trivial mistakes shouldn't result in fines at all; a simple warning should suffice. Furthermore, letting software handle the registration of business spaces (as was the previous standard) rather than leaving it to accountants would prevent these discrepancies between the Police Department filings and the cash registers entirely.
We warned the Tax Authority previously that moving to an e-tax system would trigger these exact types of headaches, and that it wasn't a great solution.
Many small business owners won't be able to stay afloat after being hit with fines this high. Their employees will end up relying on unemployment benefits from the State Employment Agency. Is that really what's best for the country?
On the flip side, if you read the news about what's happening to small businesses, you'll see many are choosing to incorporate outside the USA and pay their taxes to other nations instead of here.
We ask that you halt this excessive punishment over a single letter or digit where there is absolutely ZERO loss to the national treasury!
We want a partnership between business owners and the Police Department. As accountants and those responsible for implementing these regulations, we want to point out the illogical hurdles we face, offer suggestions, and propose solutions. All we ask is to be heard, and for you to act quickly when you see things clearly making no sense (like the examples mentioned above).
IPRH P. S
P.S.: We sent emails regarding this same content to the Department of the Treasury on 11/10 and 11/20, but we haven't received a response to this day.

Even the press is finally starting to take notice of this mess.
The piece over at Fox was actually pretty entertaining to watch.

Thanks to everyone who stepped up to make sure people actually know what’s going on in the Beautiful Coast :klap:

And here is how the minister is reacting 😁

I honestly don't get what kind of jerk you have to be to start handing out fines over stuff like this. Everyone got their stimulus checks from the Department of the Treasury—that’s what matters, and we should just move on.
It feels like they'd rather shut down every small business in town and pile on the penalties than actually help. How does this even happen?
Reading these bakery threads... man, it's a miracle he didn't end up ground into flour and sold as bread.
