Hey everyone.
I'm young and ambitious—or at least I like to think I am. I’m always coming up with business ideas or ways to actually make an impact. I need to be around people, building stuff that actually matters. Since I'm a college student who just quit my job waiting tables, I figured it's time to stop dreaming and actually try to make one of these ideas happen.
The main issue with most of my plans is that I'm broke, so I'm looking at something a bit more low-key. I want to start a youth club. I'm hoping it can be an alternative to the endless cycle of sitting around coffee shops or, as my mom would put it, just wasting time doing nothing. I want it to be a spot for real conversations, meeting people, swapping stories, having fun, or finding a partner for some crazy project. Or, you know, just a quiet place to escape and read a book. Ideally, it’ll be a hub where young people actually get active, run workshops, work on projects, and tap into all that potential they have while they're still young.
I've been reading up on non-profit laws and talking to some folks who run similar organizations. I've decided I won't move forward unless I can secure a physical space for the club to operate out of. So, if any of you have an old house left to you by an aunt that's just sitting empty, or maybe an uncle working in Chicago who has a vacant commercial space he isn't using... let me know. Even if there's some abandoned fallout shelter or an old community center in your neighborhood that's just gathering dust, I'm interested. I'd fix the place up with my own money and some help from a few friends who are already on board. I just want to start a new chapter here in Washington, D.C.
