Produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov—the guy behind hits like Day Watch and Wanted—and directed by Shane Acker, this animated Sci-Fi Fantasy is finally hitting screens. It’s actually a feature-length expansion of Acker's 2005 short film, which snagged an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short. We're looking at a $33 million budget, featuring a heavy-hitter voice cast including Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer, Crispin Glover, and Martin Landau. Word is Danny Elfman was originally lined up to score this, but for some reason, the job went to Deborah Lurie, who has plenty of experience working alongside Elfman on projects like Spider-Man 2, X2, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Expect the US premiere this September.

PLOT

When 9 (voice of Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the Earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

It’s honestly quite pointless; I can't imagine who might actually find this interesting... just some tedious, degenerate types and a plot geared toward teenagers... though I suppose someone out there might enjoy it, I guess. :/

The US premiere is happening this Wednesday (09/09/09 😁).
But honestly, I’m sitting here wondering if this will ever actually make its way over to us. I haven't seen a single mention of it on CNN.🤷If they don't pick up the rights until next year, I'll just have to figure out some other way to watch it, because I'm genuinely dying to see this animation.

Are they alone? Not exactly, but they exist in an incredibly lonely world. In this fictional, dark future version of Earth, humanity is gone; they were wiped out by machines they built themselves to make life easier. However, the human spirit has been preserved within a small group of tiny characters—they look like ragdolls with mechanical eyes and robotic limbs, but they possess hearts infused with a faint trace of the soul of the scientist who created them as human civilization was fading away.

The main character, Nine, helps his small tribe defeat the destructive mechanical monsters inhabiting that post-apocalyptic world. Elijah Wood – who played Frodo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy – provides the voice for the protagonist.

The film "9" also features the voices of Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, and John C. Reilly. The film's producers are Timur Bekmambetov and the famous American director and screenwriter known for his quirky yet highly acclaimed films, Tim Burton.

Killer animation, killer story—honestly, the visuals are cold enough to freeze you solid. Total madness! 🙂 Highly recommend checking this out if you can! 🙂

watched this a few months back... super cinematic vibe... just couldn't track down any subtitles anywhere...

...watched this animated movie the other day and I wasn't exactly blown away... I mean, sure, the animation is solid, but it just lacks that certain spark... it feels kind of tedious to sit through... maybe it’s just because we're seeing way too many post-apocalyptic settings and empty spaces in movies lately...

What else is there to say? Wow. It’s just great. A different breed of story, honestly—better than most sci-fi flicks out there right now. Highly recommend it if you have the time. 👍

If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor—it's fantastic.
The story kicks off with a brief intro... I won't spoil anything because I don't want to ruin the experience if you haven't watched it.

It reminds me a bit of The Lord of the Rings. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I suspect the screenwriter had those vibes burned into their subconscious during the writing process. Regardless, it doesn't take away from the quality of this beautiful animation at all.

It’s unique, engaging, carries a real message, and is deeply moving... those are exactly the kinds of films I love. I actually teared up a couple of times; those little creatures were just adorable. And that ending? Absolutely stunning. 😍😍
Definitely worth your time. 👍

The animation is top-tier.
They really lean too hard on the action sequences and explosions.
The ending felt pretty predictable.

It’s a case of style over substance. I really appreciated the top-tier animation, but beyond that, there isn't much to work with here. It drags in parts and the plot feels pretty thin, though I'll admit the characters are charming enough.

It was a decent enough film... though I can't help but dwell on that heavy sentiment: "sometimes one must be sacrificed."🙂

Has anyone here actually sat down to watch the movie *9*? It’s such a shame that, in my opinion, not enough people here in the States have heard of it.
In case you haven't come across it, *9* came out back in 2009, directed by Shane Acker and produced by the likes of Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov.
The story follows these little ragdoll-like creatures who somehow possess human souls and a sense of humanity, navigating a lonely, desolate world left behind after an apocalyptic event...
I know, I know... it might sound a bit weird at first glance, but it’s truly a great film, especially since it doesn't wrap everything up with a typical "happy end" conclusion... 👍
I'm really curious to know if anyone else has seen it... 🙂
