Are we entering the era of "prediction" as a legitimate career?

I’ve been watching the way certain niche online communities are suddenly becoming the primary talent pool for massive industries. It’s wild how quickly someone can go from being a "specialist" in a weird, unregulated corner of the internet to being a high-level professional in a major sector. It used to be that you needed a specific pedigree or decades of traditional experience to get a seat at the table, but those rules seem to be evaporating in real-time.

I remember back in the early days of certain speculative bubbles, people were just laughing at the enthusiasts. Now, those same enthusiasts are the ones building the actual infrastructure. It makes me wonder if we’re seeing a permanent shift in how "expertise" is defined. Is it still about what you studied in college, or is it about how much skin you have in the game and how well you can navigate chaos?
