Is the "all-in-one" camera trend actually worth it?

I’ve been looking at these tiny stabilized setups lately, but I can't decide if they're actually useful or just expensive toys that'll be obsolete in a year. Does anyone here actually prefer these handheld gimbals over just using a decent smartphone?
