I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much we rely on the "inner circle" in our professional lives. We all have those people—assistants, deputies, or long-term partners—who essentially act as our shadow. They know the rhythms, the schedules, and the little details that keep everything running smoothly. Most of the time, that bond is the foundation of success, but it’s also incredibly vulnerable.

It’s wild how quickly a decade of loyalty can vanish because of one person's lapse in judgment. I saw a situation once in my old firm where a trusted administrator went rogue, and it didn't just ruin their career; it completely destabilized the leadership's ability to function. It makes you realize that the higher you climb, the more "single points of failure" you actually have. You think you're building a team, but you're often just building a web of dependencies.

Does anyone else feel like modern professional success is becoming increasingly risky because we're forced to delegate so much of our personal agency to others?
