Is the soul of sports being sold off?

It feels like every time a major organization gets a little bit of momentum, they immediately try to invite big money in to "modernize" things. I worry that once the private equity vultures move in, the actual spirit of the game is going to get lost in the pursuit of higher margins. Is anyone else feeling skeptical about this shift toward corporate ownership in everything we love?
