Nothing's even running and I just turned the PC on, but it's already starting to overheat like crazy

Probably just a leveling issue with the fridge...

+ when was the last time you actually gave your computer a good cleaning? I mean—have you changed the thermal paste on the CPU yet?

If those aluminum heatsink fins tucked under the fan blades are choked up with dust, just pop the fan off and give them a good scrub with a brush (using a vacuum at the same time really helps).
Don't even think about pulling the heatsink itself unless you've already got some fresh thermal paste ready to go for the swap.

ps: seriously, watch yourself when you're cleaning those fan blades—they can snap like they're made of glass if you aren't careful😢

Just swapped out the thermal paste, replaced the fan and the heatsink, gave everything a deep clean and blew out all the dust... I fire up the PC, temps look perfectly fine for a few minutes, and then suddenly they spike right past 100°C again.

It might just be an issue with the software you're running—I noticed you're using Speccy right now. Why don't you try downloading CPU-Z instead? It might give us a clearer picture of what those temperatures are actually doing...

Yeah, I did. It's showing the exact same thing as Speccy...

What motherboard are we talking about here, and which BIOS version? If the CPU isn't being identified right, you might be looking at voltage issues... or maybe someone was messing with an overclock somewhere.
Are you running a dedicated GPU, or just relying on the integrated graphics? Also, what kind of cooling setup are you rocking—just the stock cooler or something beefier?
Can you grab a screenshot from CPU-Z showing the frequencies, voltages, and temps for both the CPU and the motherboard?
Man, if it’s actually hitting 100°C, you'd probably fry your finger just touching the aluminum heatsink while it's running...

Is the CPU cooler (the aluminum part, not the plastic fan housing) actually hot to the touch?

Yeah, it is.

There’s gotta be an issue somewhere. If your monitoring software isn't flagging anything, I’d bet my money on the cooler itself. It might not be seated properly, or maybe the contact surface isn't perfectly flat.

In my opinion, you’re better off just grabbing an aftermarket cooler like this one. Even if you don't run into this specific headache, it's a solid investment that you can carry over to your next build.
