Really solid, honest film. Might actually be the best one in the awards race so far (haven't seen anything by Anderson yet). 👍

A movie about absolutely nothing, presented in the most uninspired way possible. 2/10.
Do I even need to mention that the emperor is totally naked and his business is swinging in the wind?

I honestly think Greta Gerwig is way better in front of the camera than she is behind it. Like, maybe if her Noah Baumbach was calling the shots, he could have actually turned this into something decent—but she just isn't quite there as a director yet. To be totally real with you, I can barely remember anything about the Film itself; it was just super forgettable and honestly felt like it was hitting way too many clichés.

If she hadn't gotten so wrapped up in that whole feminist bandwagon—you know, being one of the first to turn her back on Woody Allen and acting all regretful about working on To Rome with Love, even though he's basically the reason anyone knows her instead of just seeing her waving her hands around in those weirdly niche Noah Baumbach movies... well, maybe she wouldn't have ended up with nothing but that one "win" where she popped up in every single frame during the Oscar ceremony, even if it wasn't the big moment she wanted.
Lady Bird is actually a pretty cool step for Greta Gerwig’s career. It’s not just because it’s her directorial debut, but because she actually knows how to tell a coming-of-age story that hits home for people of all ages, even if it is done in that quirky, signature Gerwig way. 😁

At the very least, it made me want to finally sit down and watch Brooklyn, which I've been avoiding lately, mostly just because of Saoirse Ronan.

That’s because it’s a teen drama that only manages to rise above the usual low-budget student projects thanks to the acting. If you swapped out Saoirse and Laurie Metcalf for some unknown actresses you'd see on a local cable channel at 2 PM, this would feel exactly like that—just another cheap afternoon movie.

To be honest, this Film just didn't hit home for me. It’s missing that certain charm you find in those classic American stories where you don't need guns or violence to tell a powerful tale.
Instead, it felt kind of lukewarm... a real "could have been" moment.

It isn't exactly fun, it isn't educational, and it barely qualifies as a drama either. Honestly, it lacks all three, which makes the whole thing a bit of a slog.
If you're looking for someone to blame, look no further than a lackluster script.

I have nothing but respect for Laurie Metcalf, but personally, I don't think this particular performance earned her an Oscar nomination.
Does anyone else get the feeling she tends to play the exact same character every single time?

This is a Film for indecisive, aimless hipsters who genuinely believe that absolutely nothing is actually "something." It’s emotionally detached and so dry that it crosses the line into pure pretentiousness.

Some people seriously still don't get what "pretentious" actually means ☕

Pretension is often just a mask for a lack of substance. Take Bon Iver, for example. It feels like whenever a group of hipsters lacks actual technical talent, they try to spin it as some sort of "transcendental" or deep artistic choice. It’s a classic move.

Pretentious... basically just being stuck-up. It’s when you get that vibe that an author is totally acting way above their weight class. Honestly, I couldn't imagine that being applied to this specific Film.

Well, if you ask me, the director clearly hasn't grown into making a high-quality Film yet because even for a documentary, this feels incredibly overblown. And honestly? That makes it pretentious.

She’s come a long way though, considering most people just know her from Roseanne or that one Scream sequel.

You totally missed the part where he's basically just showing off. ☕ Seems like any Film you don't personally enjoy gets labeled as "pretentious" by you...

But hey, whatever, if you really want to force yourself to sit through stuff you hate... be my guest...

But honestly, the director is definitely showing off—whoever that might be—but they are definitely showing off. ☕
Also, ☕ I can see they've managed to find a whole crowd of hipsters ☕ who absolutely adore his... erm... ☕

Look, it would’ve been a lot better if you actually backed your points up with more than just your own gut feeling, but hey, I guess asking for logic is asking too much... ☕

I mean, look, if you didn't like it, fine. Totally fair. But using your own personal frustrations to make huge generalizations and slap labels on everything? That doesn't really count for anything...

Making broad statements might work sometimes, I guess, but I’d leave that to someone who can actually see the big picture...

It would have been nice if you had actually argued why the Film is good, but instead, you're just picking on another user here to work through your own issues. ☕
By the way, I've already written quite a bit about this Film in a duplicate thread, so I'll keep this brief: first and foremost, the Film is boring. ☕
A production that has zero intention of doing anything other than churning out scene after scene without any real need to pull the audience into the story—while merely rushing through a summary of someone's teenage years in the most uninteresting way possible—isn't really a Film worthy of a special review. It's basically on par with watching paint dry. ☕
There is no story, no meaning, and it doesn't belong to any meaningful genre; it’s just peak hipsterism from a society that feels increasingly hollow and is slowly losing its sense of purpose. ☕
When they started filming Seinfeld, the goal was to make a show "about nothing," but unfortunately, they missed the mark there. Meanwhile, Lady Bird somehow manages to be a Film about nothing, suffocating the viewer with its sheer lifeless sterility, all wrapped up in the director's empty ambitions and presented through a purposeless plot that serves no function other than to put the audience to sleep like a heavy dose of anesthesia. It would be nice if I could say the Film was at least benevolent, but it isn't—because, honestly, this isn't even a Film. It's just a series of senseless shots intended for people I wouldn't want to grab a beer with, because they seem just as dull as this. ☕

☕ ☕

This thread is already two pages long. Is it really that much to ask for people to actually check out what's on the first page?

My only real gripe here is how some people act like their personal opinion is some kind of universal truth. Like, they think everyone should be thinking exactly like them... and if you don't, they just label you as "lesser" because you actually enjoyed a Film they didn't like. It's so condescending!

Honestly, my only mistake was even bothering to read these reviews. Most of them are just the same recycled words over and over again, from one thread to the next, from one post to the next... it's exhausting.☕

I suppose people are lucky I'm not some kind of dictator with absolute power; otherwise, those who loved this movie would be scrubbing my floors, washing my windows, and doing my laundry just to stay in my good graces.☕

As for your review, it honestly feels like you watched a completely different movie. There wasn't any real substance to it—just three sentences and a period. It felt like a generic description you could apply to hundreds of thousands of other films. That's precisely the issue with this one: you can't connect with any of the characters. It lacks soul, there's no real narrative drive, and it fails to engage the audience. I could forgive almost anything in a film, but I can never forgive pure boredom.
