I’ve been obsessing lately over the idea of "rewilding" just a small patch of my backyard. For the longest time, I followed the standard suburban playbook: manicured grass, some predictable flower beds, and everything looking very neat and tidy. But honestly, it feels so sterile. It’s like looking at a museum exhibit rather than something actually alive.

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with letting things go a bit wild—planting specific native shrubs and letting the weeds do their thing in certain corners. It’s a bit of a battle against the neighbors who like everything perfectly mowed, but the payoff is starting to happen. I’ve noticed a massive jump in the variety of visitors in my garden. It’s one thing to see the usual suspects, but seeing a whole new cast of characters fluttering around because of a few "messy" patches of dirt makes me wonder how much life we're accidentally killing off with our obsession with perfection.

Does anyone else feel like the "perfect" garden is actually a desert for local wildlife, or am I just being a lazy gardener?
