Traveling for the love of the game

I've always wondered if traveling halfway across the world just to follow a team is actually worth the exhaustion. My buddy did it last year and came back a total zombie, but he swore it was the best experience of his life. Do you think the atmosphere of an away trip justifies that kind of chaos?
